Last week on the Podcast we hosted founder and blender, Amine! 🥃🔥

We chatted about his back story and how he worked the corporate side of the industry before leaving to invest in multiple liquor stores and eventually to move on and start Old Louisville Whiskey Co.

Amine has solid & interesting takes on how he sources, blends, and creates the whiskey for his brand. Such as never bottling anything under 7.5 Years old and never finishing Bourbon, only American, Rye, or Light Whiskey. We also discussed his new tasting room that’s currently being built and what guests can look forward to when they visit.

A big topic and hit at the store lately has been this new 8.5 Year Kentucky Bourbon he just released. It was sourced from one of the first distilling runs at Bardstown Bourbon Co. over 8 years ago and he’s been patiently sitting on them ever since they were filled. It’s one of the oldest distillates in existence from Bardstown and has everything you’d want in a Kentucky Bourbon. Honeycomb, toasted oak, brûlée, wood sugar spice, and much more to look forward to in this one.

We hosted a super fun blind tasting last night! The theme was “What’s New”? Featuring all brands or releases that are new to the store within the last year. Feedback from top to bottom was incredibly positive, there truly were no losers in this lineup, but we’re always excited to share the results!

Round 1 - Eagle Rare 12 Year took down Old Grand Dad 7 Year BiB, 24 to 16.

Round 2 - Highes Belle of Bedford ACBS 12 Year Rye single barrel takes down The Beautiful and the Damned The Diplomat, 22 to 18. We love a good Rye round, there’s ALWAYS a handful of people who say they don’t really like Rye, but really enjoyed these Ryes! 😉 Two incredible whiskies here that share the same mashbill but taste very different, only 10 bottles left of the Belle of Bedford pick!

Round 3 - Preservation distillery VOSN Straight Outta Bardstown 10 Year Bourbon took down Frey Ranch Uncut Bourbon, 27 to 13. We were curious about this St. Nick and it certainly did not disappoint. It was in Fred Minicks top 15 whiskies of 2024 and both pours here had most people guessing 110-120 proof even though the average of the two is 128.5!

Bonus pour was the best seller and most people’s favorite pour, our newest Rare Character SEG Rye barrel pick. We still have about 25 bottles of that left!

We’ll get another blind tasting on the schedule soon, these are always a crowd favorite! Blinds are a great way to develop your palate and discover what you like and don’t like without letting marketing and hype play a role. In the meantime, our next two Masterclasses with Frey Ranch and RD1 are both 80% full, so grab some grab your spot ASAP! Cheers 🦅🥃🎉

🔥🥃 Redemption 18 Year Bourbon 🥃🔥

We received 42 bottles of 18 Year Bourbon “Ancients Collection” 🥃🔥

We got 6 bottles last week and they sold out before we even had the chance to properly post them. There’s a ton of very good press about this release and their MSRP is 399.99 with most places online selling it for even more, so this should be a great price!

We did get to try it and can certainly vouch for it. It’s not often you find a Bourbon this old that doesn’t taste like a complete oak bomb and still has lively flavor notes, balance, and complexity. The proof point is a decadent barrel strength of 103.4 and it packs well above its proof point flavor and viscosity wise.

We’re going to open one up for the bar tomorrow so you all can experience this throughout the week, but we don’t anticipate bottles to-go to last very long.

SEG-050 Single Barrel Select 3 - Barrel Proof 8 Year Kentucky Rye Whiskey 🥃🎉

Distilled in Kentucky with 64% Rye, 30% Corn, and 6% Malted Barley. Aged in Kentucky for 8 years & 3 months, selected and bottled exclusively for Gold Eagle at a barrel proof of 121.38 🔥

We had just talked about how we’re done picking Ryes for a while. We feel some of the best barrels we’ve picked are Rye but just aren’t in nearly as much demand as the bourbon picks. This however, is a barrel we could not let slip away.

There’s distinct earthy and herbal spice notes such as Cardamom, Thyme, Nutmeg, and Rosemary. Then the high corn content comes through and gives it a good amount of sweetness, almost tricking you into thinking it was a Bourbon. Bold notes of burnt caramel, vanilla, toffee, caramelized wood sugars, and grapefruit are rounded out by some lemon & lime zest, cedar, and lychee. The finish clings to your palate for a long while and just does not want to give up, leaving you with some spice but mostly the sweeter and more fruitier notes.

What an incredible Bourbon dinner last night with our friends at 🥃🔥

These guys know how to do it right! Four courses each expertly paired with a phenomenal neat pour of Bourbon. The food, pairings, ambiance, and company were spectacular!

Course 1: “Maple Pancake” Patton Road Cask Strength Single Barrel Bourbon paired with Bacon Wrapped Dates 🥓

Course 2: Small Batch paired with Gourmet Mac & Cheese and BBQ Ribs 🍖

Course 3: 9 Year Wheated Bourbon Single Barrel paired with a 40oz Porcini-Crusted Cowboy Ribeye and Sautéed Spinach 🥩

Course 4: Old Orleans Cask Strength single barrel Bourbon paired with Bourbon Caramel Flan 🍮 🤤

And a phenomenal Halibut dish for the pescatarians 🐟

It was an honor to be included and to curate the Bourbon pairings. This dinner was sold out and we will hopefully be planning another one with them in the near future, so keep an eye out and don’t even hesitate to sign up! Cheers 🦅🥃🎉
