Pursuit Spirits Triple Mash Double Oaked Rye in French Oak 108 Proof 🥃🔥

Barrel Code: “Oak Bomb”

It’s their standard rye blend of 95/5 Bardstown Bourbon Co. Rye, 52/43/5 Sagamore Rye, and 95/5 Sagamore Rye. Double Oaked in a single barrel with French Oak Staves. We’d classify this is a sweet & bold dessert rye with no floral or dill notes and minimal spiciness, but enough to add depth and complexity.

It’s a heavenly Rye for Rye lovers but also perfect for the Bourbon drinker who thinks they don’t like rye. Just take a look at that color and BLIND YOUR FRIENDS who say they don’t like rye, because this one is impossible not to enjoy!

The flavors literally cling and dance on your palate like pop rocks. It’s bold, oaky, decadent, and sweet through and through. You can expect flavors of charred oak, toasted oak, wood sugars, brownie batter, blackberries, milk chocolate, and burnt orange peel.

We picked this barrel with Kenny at the store after the pursuit Masterclass. Once again we said we weren’t picking a rye and ended up picking a rye…. We just couldn’t this barrel down 🙄 The barrel pick was over immediately after tasting this sample 🤣

🔥🥃 9 Year Pingree Oloroso 🥃🔥

Not technically a barrel pick, but we got a taste of this Mayor Pingree single barrel they were selling at the distillery and we were able to snag up a few cases!

It’s a 9 Year Barrel Proof MGP Bourbon finished in an Oloroso Sherry Cask. Distilled at MGP with their 21% Rye Bourbon mashbill, aged 9 years, then finished for a full year in an Oloroso cask before being bottled at a barrel proof of 118.6!

The color is very dark with a glowing red hue. The nose is exactly like spreading some fresh raspberry preserves on a warm English muffin. The palate is jammy and packed with raspberry, figs, blueberry, black currant, and cranberry, yet it still has a solid bourbon backbone with great viscosity rounded out with a sweet rye spice. This is a perfect Bourbon coming into the holiday season and these colder Fall nights.

This was a happy accident find while tasting some other Pingree samples that we’ll get to later 😈

🔥🥃 Barrel Pick Release 🥃🔥

Rare Perfection 10 Year Barrel Proof 2016 Vintage Kentucky Bourbon Single Barrel 129.4 Proof 🥃🔥

The Rare Perfection Wh***ey label has held various styles of wh***ey in the past. It appears from Preservation Distillery + Farm only when Master Distiller and founder Marci Palatella deems a wh***ey to be utterly exceptional.

We did this pick a few months back at the distillery, totally blind. They offer barrel picks from several different brands, so we requested for them to pour a variety and not tell us what’s what. In our samples we had Old Man Winter, C**k of the Walk, Wattie Boone, Very Old St. Nick, and Rare Perfection 10 Year. The room was completely unanimous for this particular single barrel.

The source and mashbill are undisclosed and yes, the price is higher than average for a 10 year Kentucky Bourbon. But throw the stats out the window and let’s focus on the one thing that matters, the taste. It’s INCREDIBLY rich, full bodied, balanced, and flavorful. We would put this up against ANY high proof Kentucky Bourbon in a blind. you’ll find notes of toasted brown sugar crumble, peach cobbler, caramelized wood sugars, toasted oak, and a mild yet sweet rye spice.

Something we look for in every barrel pick is a long finish so you’ll hear us use that term on most of our picks, but this one is exceptionally long and pleasant. Minutes after your last sip you’re left still tasting all the decadent notes of this incredible Bourbon.

Despite the price, this should sell fairly quickly. We have 150 total bottles and most people who attended the Preservation Masterclass a few months ago committed to a few bottles after tasting a preview. You can secure yours now online or in-store before we run out and there’s a bottle available to taste at the bar. We will update this post once we sell out, cheers! 🦅🥃🎉
