Good day!
Times are tough. Everyone I know is feeling financial strain. Goods and services cost more, but we still bring home the same amount of money.
As we expected, Pop’s Place has suffered exceedingly since Hot Spring County went wet. While we completely understand the need to save time and money by purchasing things from a chain store, it is impossible for small businesses to compete. Individually owned stores don’t have the buying power of a chain store. It is disheartening for me to see chain stores sell their products for the same amount, (sometimes less) than what we pay for them. In America, you would think there would be some incentive for small businesses, but “Big Business” continues to grow while Mom and Pop stores continue to struggle, and most eventually close their doors.
Everyone, including myself, was shocked when Gene’s Liquor went out of business, but it’s really just simple math. The number of people purchasing alcohol has not increased, but the number of businesses selling it has increased exponentially. For a new store to prosper, an old store must suffer. It’s not personal. It’s just business.
So, you will continue to see us adding new services like renting U-Haul equipment, and new food products such as chicken wings, cheese sticks, and dessert pizza! Yes, we still sell Hunt Brothers Pizza and homemade smoked pork butt and chicken breast! We enjoy serving our community and pride ourselves in providing the best customer service while selling ice cold beverages and the highest quality food made to order.
Just know, if we ever close our doors, it won’t be because we don’t enjoy providing a service for our community nor will it be because we didn’t fight long and hard to keep them open! It will be because financially, it was the right thing to do.
Thank you, and God bless!
