Katie's General Store

Katie passed away this morning at 7:05am surrounded by her family, it was very peaceful. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and, friend. The store will be closed today in her memory. Thank you for all the kindness so many people have shown the family during her illness. I will post her service information when it is finalized.

They didn't have to do the shunt! The doctor's suspected that last week they had weened her off the steroids too quickly so they started them back this weekend and it cleared up the brain swelling problem!!! She started eating some regular food again today, which is great. She's been very alert the last couple of days, has moments of confusion but her memory is improving daily ~ Angie

Mom had a set back yesterday, the opening they made for the fluid to leave her brain failed (it was like she was in a mild coma) so they had to move her back to ICU and re-insert the drain tube; luckily, immediately after they released the pressure, she woke up and was able to speak again and follow commands. She will have a shunt put in on Monday. ~ Angie

Mom had the radiosurgery this morning; seemed to go well. She had the drain removed from her lung, also. She's eating and drinking some now so the feeding tube may be removed in the next day or so. Yay! :-) ~ Angie

Mom stabilized enough today to be moved out of the ICU, she continues to get stronger everyday.

Mom is getting stronger and able to speak more everyday. She is able to sit in a chair for a couple of hours a day and can stand for short periods of time; passes most of her neuro-checks throughout the day. She is getting wonderful care here at Shands; she will start speech and physical therapy in the next few days. Thank you for all of the prayers and good wishes!! ~ Angie

When I started thinking about how much of a fixture Mom and the store is in the community, I thought it would be neat to create a fan page for her. Spread the word, it makes her feel really good knowing people are thinking of her. She's had a few rough days but misses all of the wonderful people who spent time with her at the store. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!!!
