Chartreuse is a French herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks from a secret recipe of 130 plants, with two main varieties: Green (stronger, herbal, 55% ABV) and Yellow (sweeter, honeyed, 40% ABV). Known as an “elixir of long life,” it’s produced in the French Alps and aged in oak casks, with only two monks knowing the full recipe at any time. It’s used in cocktails or enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as a digestif.
