Anna Maria Sala Sicilia Nero d'Avola (Mary Taylor)

Nero d’Avola, the black grape of Avola, has been cultivated in Siclia since the Greeks brought the plants in the 8th century BC. The land where Nero d’Avola grows is characterized by clayey soil, well suited to black varieties and to wines with a more robust structure. This vineyard is very close to the sea, bringing sea breezes to the grapes and saline minerality to the wine. Manual harvest normally takes place in the second and third weeks of September. After a fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and a maceration of minimum two weeks, the wine is aged on the lees for 3-4 months more before bottling.

Le Boncie 'Le Trame' Toscana Rosso 2022

The beauty of Sangiovese is revealed here in its most pure form, unencumbered by manipulation of the wine during vinification and élevage and without exposure to new oak. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 300-350 meters; the average vine age is 15 years. The essential character of this wine can best be described as “ferociously elegant”. But, what appears to be an oxymoron is, in fact, the reality. There is a gracefulness to this wine, an impeccable balance, that belies the intense concentration reflected in its vigorous, ripe tannins. Annual production is approximately 1,000 cases; we import between 25% to 30% of that amount for the US market. -Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Haus Marke 'Moric' Rot Solera 22

Hausmarke Rot is a blend of Blaufrankisch, Rotburger and Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir). It comes across as Blaufrankisch with a more playful side, fresh and agile, full of notes of currant and juicy red cherry. There is a backbone of earth and spice that does not dominate but merely supports this easy-to-drink introduction to the finessed and wonderful wines of Roland Velich. If his Blaufrankisch bottlings are his Burgundian expression of Burgenland, this is his homage to Cru Beaujolais. A blend of the every vintage from 2012 to 2022 except 2013.

Lucien Crochet ‘La Croix des Roy’ Sancerre Rouge

Visual: deep red with purple hue
Nose: The aromatic complexity is revealing immediately on opening, when scents of ripe berries mingle with black fruits, but floral aromas as well, violet in particular, and vanilla smell in the background. A hint of graphite provides the mineral touch that completes olfaction.
Palate: velvety and airy texture, however full-bodied and sappy. The tannins fill and cover the palate. Berry flavours reappear, accompanied by pralin aromas. The finish is warm, but nicely balanced by notes of violet and vanilla in retronasal olfaction.
