About us: The Kelleys Island General Store is a family-owned storefront located in the heart of downtown Kelleys Island. We've proudly served residents and visitors of the island since 1978. With products ranging from souvenirs to sundries, and services including golf cart rentals, you'll find a little of everything in the island's largest variety store.
Entry-level pay averaged over $17 per hour in 2022.
Job Summary: The Sales Associate plays a key role at Kelleys Island General Store. Employees can expect an engaging work environment which requires interacting with and serving customers in a quick and friendly manner while keeping the sales floor stocked, organized, and cleaned. Our team also handles a multitude of diverse tasks including cleaning, moving, organizing, answering phone calls, renting golf carts, and more.
Pay:
Average new hire employee will earn $17/hr!
April 7th - July 30th $14.50/weekdays | $17.50/weekends
July 31st - October 29th $17.50/weekdays | $20.50/weekends
Retail Store Associate:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner
-Providing information about products and services
-Processing sales transactions using a POS system
-Handling customer complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner
-Maintaining a clean and organized store environment
-Assisting with stocking, visual merchandising and display setup
-Helping with stockroom organization and inventory management
-Cleaning, moving and renting golf carts
-Performing other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
-Retail or customer service experience preferred
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Ability to work well in a team environment
-Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
-Flexibility to work varying shifts and weekends as needed
-Basic math and computer skills
-Must be age 18 or older
-Requires a valid Driver's License due to golf cart rentals
-Must be legally eligible to work in the US

Have you ever had a one-minute walking commute before? The lakefront home where our employees live is just a stone’s throw away from the store. Employee housing is situated conveniently right downtown near the grocery store, ATMs, bars, and restaurants. Additional housing is also available in a more secluded part of the island for those desiring a more private natural environment in exchange for a 0.6 mile commute.
There are no bridges connecting the island to the mainland. Kelleys Island is only accessible by air or water. The Kelleys Island Ferry Boat Line is a preferred method of transportation to and from the island for both individuals and automobiles.
Since this commute can be costly and time-consuming, Kelleys Island General Store provides deeply discounted housing for staff. Our two employee houses are within walking distance of the store. Each house is shared by a maximum of 5 employees, each having their own private fully-furnished bedroom with a locking door. The housing is very well maintained, air-conditioned, and equipped with amenities such as a stove, oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, pots and pans, dishes, glasses, and silverware. TV/Cable is not provided, but fiber WiFi is included! Rooms are single occupancy and available to employees at a rate of $62.50/week, utilities included.
