OPEN FOR BUSINESS…OPEN FOR FUN! 6 months after Hurricane Helene decimated the mountains of western North Carolina, Emerald Village in Little Switzerland, NC re-opened today, April 1st (no April Fool joke!). And what a day it was! First-day visitors enjoyed touring the underground mine and searching for gems. Others explored the exhibits of Discovery Mill. Many preferred going through fun and easy gem buckets (as in the attached photo), while serious rockhounds dug and collected rare minerals on the historic McKinney Mine dumps. Beautiful weather accented the day and the sound of kids (of all ages) having fun echoed in the air. Emerald Village is now open every day through November 2nd. Everyone deserves to have some fun after the long hard winter, and Emerald Village is OPEN for business AND fun! Western North Carolina still has much to offer visitors, and your visit will be appreciated. You’ll find strong, caring people who collectively survived a catastrophic event, and who are re-building with pride and resiliency. Your visit will be appreciated here. Come have a “Gem of a Day” at Emerald Village, located one hour North of Asheville and 2,000 feet higher!

It’s a wonderful nonprofit within Avery and Watauga High Schools and offers so many great opportunities for students! They’re currently accepting donations now as their biggest fundraising event is happening soon!

It’s time to get ready for Climbathon!! We made the difficult decision to reschedule it from it’s regular December date due to Hurricane Helene, but we are back and ready to go!!
