Gunpowder Irish Gin is an oriental-inspired spirit from The Shed Distillery in Co Leitrim that's setting the world alight. Taking its name from one of the signature botanicals, slowly dried Gunpowder tea, the recipe also includes lime, lemon and grapefruit.

The ambitious list of botanicals used in the copper still distillation of Drumshanbo includes juniper berries, angelica root, orris root, caraway seed, coriander seed, meadowsweet, cardamom, and star anise. Following distillation, the spirit is vapor-infused with lemon, red grapefruit, fresh lime, and gunpowder tea. This gin is chock full of all of the antioxidants and citrus you'll need.

The final product is a classic juniper forward London dry gin, exhibiting abundant citrus in the form of candied grapefruit and lemon zest, and a panoply of diverse aromatics and herbs rounded out in a honeyed and spiced bold finish.

The Moscow Mule was born out of pure desperation and a little strategy.

It's 1941. Vodka isn't selling in America. Ginger beer isn't selling either. Three people walk into a bar in Hollywood, each sitting on inventory they can't move.

John G. Martin had just bought Smirnoff and was drowning in vodka nobody wanted. Jack Morgan owned the C**k 'n' Bull pub on Sunset Boulevard and was trying to introduce Americans to his ginger beer; they already had ginger ale and weren't interested.

Then there's the copper mug mystery. Depending on who you ask, it was either Sophie Berezinski, a Russian immigrant who'd hauled 2,000 handcrafted copper mugs to America, or Oseline Schmidt, Morgan's girlfrien,d who'd inherited a copper factory. Either way, someone had mugs to sell.

So they mixed vodka, ginger beer, and lime. Poured it into a copper mug. And suddenly had a drink that was crisp, refreshing, and dangerously easy to love.

The copper mug wasn't traditional; it was a fun accessory. Cold to the touch, visually striking, and perfect for photos (decades before Instagram existed), it turned the Moscow Mule into an icon and helped vodka go from afterthought to American staple.
