Streetcar

Streetcar Streetcar values above all else that both wine and beer offer a visceral connection to a particular place and its dependent culture.

To fill our shelves, we seek the best producers from every major and minor wine growing region in the world. While organic and biodynamic viticulture or any of the various other principles of "natural wine" are important to us, we try to choose conscientious wine growers who are better suited to making those decisions. The world of craft beer is currently enjoying its finest hour, and we are thril

led to be taking a role in this ever-evolving cultural phenomenon. Our selection attempts to showcase both the best of our vibrant local scene and the inspirational motherlands, i.e. Belgium, Germany, England, and the American West Coast. Please join us for our free weekly tastings, beer on Thursdays and wine on Fridays. For a schedule of upcoming events, please either sign up for our email list or visit our web site at streetcarwines.com.

Thirteen years ago this month, we opened Streetcar with a mission to build a community of thirsty, open-minded wine and beer drinkers. Well, here you are! Over the last year or two, you’ve seen the shop start to change. You’ve spotted a wedge of cheese where there wasn’t one before, a tin of fish you didn’t expect, a box of pasta that found its way onto the shelf. Bit by bit, we’ve cobbled together a pantry section you’ve clearly loved — and now, we’re ready to give it the space it deserves.

We’re launching a campaign with .co as we plan our remodel to make room for more cheese, more snacks, more frozen and fresh goods. We’re inviting you to be a part of it! When you contribute, you get more access to Streetcar AND get 120% back in store credit.

Go big and give $500+ to become a Pantry Pal — with access to some hidden gems and exciting events!

Make the largest contribution and Michael will host a private off-site tasting or party for you and ten of your friends.

This shop has always grown because of you — your curiosity, your suggestions, your support. Thanks for making Streetcar what it is. Let’s keep building!

In October 2023, Streetcar regular Jeffrey S. Wojtowicz published a survey of 74 research studies conducted from 1987-2023 entitled, "Long-Term Health Outcomes of Regular, Moderate Red Wine Consumption". His survey "is not intended to encourage red wine consumption for health outcomes but rather to avoid discouraging moderate red wine consumption based on misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the red wine data due to the reporting of pooled data across all types of alcohol."

Wojtowicz found no evidence of an association between moderate red wine consumption and negative health outcomes. In fact, his survey found that "a beneficial effect of moderate red wine consumption was consistently seen for mortality and dementia," along with certain cancers and cardiovascular conditions.

You can read the full article here:

Studies that are conducted to assess alcohol’s long-term health outcomes generally report the results as a pooled analysis across all types of alcohol. Questions have been raised regarding potential health differences between types of alcohol, such as beer, wine, or spirits. While these three shar...

With the recent barrage of alarmist, neo-prohibitionist messaging from The New York Times, we feel the need to respond. Though we acknowledge the well-established risks associated with excessive or binge drinking, the demonization of moderate alcohol consumption based on flawed studies with data lacking depth and transparency is unreasonable. Clearly we are biased, and we are not medical professionals. We want our customers to lead long and healthy lives. Our hopes are to encourage critical thinking on this subject; and to continue to offer the conscientiously-produced, provocative, life-affirming, community-building wines and beers for many years to come.

The reality is that discussions of data on alcohol and health can be extremely confusing. We hear everything
