From Incarceration to Independence: Darrell’s Transformation

Darrell joined our A-Step program after spending more than 12 years incarcerated and having never held a driver’s license. At the time, he was unemployed, without stable housing, and fully dependent on others for transportation.

Through A-Step, Darrell began rebuilding his foundation. He completed resume support and occupational training and went on to earn his Forklift Class 1, 4, and 5 Counterbalance Certifications, quickly securing employment with a local food manufacturing warehouse.

Determined to keep moving forward, Darrell completed his Commercial Vehicle Driving training and earned his CDL on January 10, 2025. Although he faced barriers in his job search due to his background, he remained persistent and kept pushing forward.

Today, Darrell is building his career with FCC Environmental Services. In addition to his professional progress, he now owns a vehicle, has moved into his own home, and recently celebrated the birth of his daughter.

Darrell’s transformation is a testament to perseverance and second chances. We are honored to recognize his accomplishments and the foundation he continues to build for a stronger future!

This school year, students across North Florida showed what it means to give back. 💙♻️

Our Bag It Up Donation Drives wrapped up for the year with 19 schools participating across our community! Through these drives, students collected gently used items while learning valuable lessons about sustainability, generosity, and the impact of supporting their community.

Programs like Bag It Up help introduce students to the importance of reducing waste, giving items a second life, and supporting local programs that help people in our community access job training, education, and career opportunities.

We’re grateful to every student, teacher, family, and school that participated this year and helped make a difference one bag at a time.

🎓✨ Each year, we are honored to continue a tradition that reflects the life and legacy of Adam R. Thayer, former Director of Information Technology at Goodwill Industries of North Florida.

Adam believed deeply in the power of education, service, and creating pathways for others; principles that remain at the heart of this annual scholarship.

The $5,000 award is presented to a college-bound high school senior or active Goodwill employee who exemplifies academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to service.

For 2026, we are proud to recognize Ethan Bertrand as this year’s scholarship recipient!

Ethan stood out among an impressive pool of 75 applicants and has been accepted to Florida State University, where he will continue his academic journey this fall. His dedication, focus, and drive to make a meaningful impact in his community truly reflect the spirit of this award.

Big appetite. Even bigger impact!

This past Saturday, we had the honor of welcoming world champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut to The Corner at Debs Store! Joey spent the morning meeting fans, taking photos, and surprising 10 lucky shoppers with $50 gift cards to kickstart their grocery runs.

Before heading off to the Sporting JAX Women’s Team game, where he tackled a boiled egg eating challenge (averaging an unbelievable 31 eggs per minute 🤯), he made time to connect with our community in a meaningful way.

We’re grateful for his visit and his commitment to giving back in every city he stops in. Thanks for making it a morning to remember, Joey!
