Changing lives in the Historic Out East through fresh foods, education and career opportunities.

The Corner at Debs Store, at the corner of Florida Avenue and 5th Street, will bring fresh produce and groceries to the residents of Jacksonville’s Historic Eastside and surrounding neighborhoods, filling a void created by the 2011 closing of the original Debs Store. Working with our partners, LIFT JAX, the Debs Family, VyStar Credit Union, local community organizations and our donors, we seek to create a vibrant community space where residents can build healthier, more prosperous lives.

Happy to our Jacksonville community! 💙

September 4th is a meaningful date across Duval County, but for Goodwill Industries of North Florida, it marks a pivotal moment in our mission to remove barriers to employment.

Two years ago on 904 Day, we officially cut the ribbon on The Corner at Debs Store in Jacksonville’s Historic Eastside. One year ago today, we gathered to celebrate its 1st anniversary. Today, we reflect on how this landmark initiative continues to transform access and opportunity in our city.

When Goodwill expanded its focus to tackle food insecurity alongside workforce training, we knew we couldn’t do it alone. The Corner at Debs Store brought fresh produce and essential groceries back to a neighborhood that hadn’t had access to fresh foods since 2011.

Beyond fresh groceries on the main floor, the second floor serves as a complete community resource hub featuring:
👉 Goodwill’s GoodCareers Center: Offering no-cost, full-service job search assistance and career development.
👉 VyStar Credit Union Financial Fitness Center: Providing accessible financial literacy, account guidance, and counseling.
👉 AT&T Connected Learning Center: Free high-speed internet, computers, and digital literacy resources to help bridge the digital divide.

Building a healthier, more equitable local economy takes true collaboration. We want to extend our thanks to the Debs family, our incredible co-creators, funders, and partners who helped make this vision a reality.

Thank you for believing in the power of local partnerships. Happy 904 Day!

Goodwillie 🤝 Scampi 🤝 Removing Barriers to Employment 🤝 Baseball

What a night at 121 Financial Ballpark! We took over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp field for the Charity Begins at Home game, celebrating the power of community and opportunity across North Florida.

Our President and CEO, David Rey, with a hand from Goodwillie, threw out the ceremonial first pitch to launch an evening focused on community transformation, education, and workforce development.

Throughout the stadium, we showcased our Take Stock in Children program, which pairs high-potential, underserved students with mentors and college scholarships to break the cycle of generational poverty. Team members from The Corner at Debs Store, a unique grocery and resource initiative operated by Goodwill North Florida, also connected with fans to hand out 20% off coupons and share how Debs provides fresh food access, job training, and career support to Jacksonville’s Historic Eastside.

Events like this directly amplify our core mission of removing barriers to employment and creating pathways to independence across North Florida. Thank you to the Jumbo Shrimp organization and all the fans who cheered us on!

Empowering the next generation starts with community support. 🎓

Te’Aysiah, a Take Stock in Children Suwannee student, and her mentor, Sharon, sat down to share how their journey together became a lifelong bond. From prepping for college and a future medical career to building a lasting friendship, their story shows what happens when we invest in our local youth.

Mentorship and community support change lives, creating real pathways from classroom potential to long-term success. When we invest in our local students, we build a stronger future for all of Suwannee County.

Help bridge the gap between potential and opportunity by giving today—choose a one-time gift or become a monthly donor to join our core community of supporters. Plus, from now until December 31st, 2026, your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000, doubling your impact!

Safety in action!

During a routine walkthrough at one of our stores, our team caught three of our incredible transportation crew members doing what they do best: loading and unloading donations with total precision and top-notch safety practices.

They weren't doing it for the recognition; they were just doing their thing! But when you see excellence, you have to celebrate it. Our team paused on the spot to shout them out, thank them for their dedication, and give them the recognition (and rewards!) they truly deserve.

Thank you to our transportation heroes for keeping our team, our donors, and our community safe every single day.

When Perla walked across the high school graduation stage, her Take Stock in Children mentor, Melissa, was right there cheering her on. Today, Perla is taking her next big step into the nursing program at St. Johns River State College, a dream built on hard work and the support of a dedicated mentor. This degree will give her the foundational education she needs to pursue a future career in the medical field.

Throughout her academic journey, the Take Stock in Children Putnam program has provided invaluable support by helping her explore fitting career paths through mentorship and alleviating financial burdens with a college scholarship. Grateful for the kindness shown by the people she has met through the program, Perla feels fully supported as she works toward her goals.

Mentorship and community support change lives, creating real pathways from classroom potential to long-term success. When we invest in our local students, we build a stronger future for all of Putnam County.

Big appetite. Even bigger impact!

This past Saturday, we had the honor of welcoming world champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut to The Corner at Debs Store! Joey spent the morning meeting fans, taking photos, and surprising 10 lucky shoppers with $50 gift cards to kickstart their grocery runs.

Before heading off to the Sporting JAX Women’s Team game, where he tackled a boiled egg eating challenge (averaging an unbelievable 31 eggs per minute 🤯), he made time to connect with our community in a meaningful way.

We’re grateful for his visit and his commitment to giving back in every city he stops in. Thanks for making it a morning to remember, Joey!
