Think you know Bernardo de Gálvez? To help us celebrate his birthday today, here are a few lesser-known facts about the hero behind our name:

📜 He led a multicultural army of Spanish, French, Native American, and free Black soldiers—making his Gulf campaigns some of the most diverse military efforts of the era.

📜 Congress made Gálvez an Honorary U.S. Citizen in 2014—one of only eight people to ever receive that honor.

📜 The iconic phrase “Yo Solo” (“I alone”) was added to his coat of arms after he led the charge into Pensacola Bay by himself when his fleet hesitated.

📜 He served as the Spanish governor of Louisiana twice and even became Viceroy of New Spain before his death in 1786.

📜 He has a statue just blocks from the White House in Washington, D.C., honoring his contributions to American independence.

Did you know Bernardo de Gálvez was a Spanish military leader who helped secure American independence during the Revolutionary War? He led a daring campaign to capture British strongholds along the Gulf Coast—including the victory at Pensacola—and was later honored as an American hero by Congress.

Born July 23, 1746, Gálvez wasn’t just a general—he was also Louisiana’s colonial governor and a true friend to the colonies.

Come celebrate his legacy with us this weekend—tastings, cocktails, and plenty of bold spirit. ¡Viva Gálvez!

Marie-Felicité Saint-Maxent, the daughter of a powerful Creole family in New Orleans, became the wife of Bernardo de Gálvez and a key figure in Louisiana’s colonial history. Their marriage united Spanish military power with local influence—bridging cultures and strengthening Galvez’s role as governor. Her presence tied him even more deeply to Louisiana, making their legacy one of both strategy and love.
