🚨 NOW HIRING: GLORIFIED CASHIER 🚨
(Yes, we made up the title. No, we did not make up the responsibilities.)

Are you a people person who can run a register, keep your cool, and occasionally tell your coworkers what needs to get done? 😏

Bishop’s Store is looking for a Glorified Cashier to join our team!

This is not your average “stand behind the register and smile” job. You’ll be one of the people we trust to help keep the store running smoothly — and yes, you get KEYS. 🔑

What You'll Be Doing:

💰 Running the register & providing excellent customer service
🦌 Tagging wild game — yes, the real stuff
🎣 Selling hunting & fishing licenses, ATV/Snowmobile Registrations.
🧹 Making sure the store stays clean, organized, and presentable
👀 Paying attention to what needs to be done instead of waiting to be told
👥 Delegating small tasks to coworkers when needed
🔑 Locking up the establishment at the end of the night
😊 Talking to customers, helping people, answering questions, and generally being a pleasant human being

What We're Looking For:

PEOPLE SKILLS. Seriously. This is a must.

We want someone who:

Enjoys talking with customers
Can provide great customer service — even when it's busy
Is responsible and trustworthy
Can take initiative and see what needs to be done
Isn't afraid to politely delegate a task when necessary
Can work independently
Can handle a little chaos without losing their mind
Is comfortable working around hunters, fishermen, locals, travelers, and the occasional person who has just one quick question 😆
Is willing to work some weekends
🕓 The Schedule:

Mostly NIGHTS
4–5 nights per week
Approximately 8–10 hour shifts, depending on the season and business needs.

This is a position for someone who is looking for more than just a paycheck. We need someone we can trust with the keys, the customers, the closing duties, and the day-to-day craziness that comes with running a small-town store.

🐻 A Quick Note About Our Bear Board 🐻

We’ve had a few questions and comments about the weights on our bear board, so we thought we’d take a minute to explain something you may notice when bears come through Bishop’s Store.

As a tagging station here in Maine, we sometimes have bears come in live weight (L/D) rather than field dressed.

Why? Because sometimes a hunter is bringing their bear out of the woods and directly to a tagging station. Bears aren't necessarily spending hours or days in the woods after being harvested. In many cases, the hunter simply wants to get the bear to a tagging station as soon as possible then directly to the butcher- and the bear arrives before it has been field dressed.

We are simply the tagging station. We weigh and record what comes through our doors and follow the rules and requirements that are set for us. We don't make the rules, determine how the rules are applied, decide which bear a hunter chooses to harvest, or know the circumstances behind why someone chooses to take a particular bear. We celebrate the wins and want the experience to be a good one for all hunters.. and we do enjoy the fact bears are not in our trash bins.

So, when you see a bear posted on our board, please remember that there is a person, a hunt, and a set of circumstances behind every entry. Sometimes it's a persons first harvest and that's amazing!

We kindly ask that everyone give our hunters the same courtesy and respect that we would hope to receive ourselves. ❤️

We’re happy to answer questions about the tagging process and explain what L/D means, but we’d appreciate leaving the criticism of individual bears, their weights, or the hunters who harvested them out of the comments.

At the end of the day, we're just doing our job, tagging bears and keeing the board updated. 🐻🌲We would love to feel comfortable continuing to do so.
