Braised and tender Vietnamese ribs. We usually do a slow-cooked meal on Sundays with more extravagant proteins that we affectionately call “Brown Food Sunday.” This one was so easy…oven ribs finished with a spicy slaw, rice and quick pickles.

Enjoyed with aromatic Cosmolino and fresh and silky 2014 Petit Verdot from from a recent trip to (highly recommend when in the DC area!)

Aromatic white, Caywood Dry Riesling 2022 and earthy red, Bourgogne Les Barrigards 2023. So lovely in concert.

If you’d like to try amber wine from the father of modern, natural wine, treat yourself to Gravner’s Ribolla Gialla 2016 (current vintage) which has just arrived from the hills of Friuli on Italy’s northeast border near Slovenia.

It’s biodynamically farmed, fermented in subterranean amphorae (6 months on skins), then aged 6 years in large oak casks, before bottling unfined and unfiltered. The wine is dry and nutty with hints of sesame, hazelnut and walnut, along with singed orange and honey. Gently tannic and deep, it will continue to age for up to a decade.

Try with creamy mushroom risotto or duck à l’orange and chestnut stuffing.

What’s not to love about Canadian bacon, potatoes, onions, cream and Reblochon cheese? Topped off with Caesar salad and baguette, that’s my definition of cozy.
