One month ago yesterday, I was struck head-on by a car whilst riding my bike home from a neighborhood block party. Both of my patellas were shattered (10 pieces and innumerable pieces, respectively), and my right (dominant) wrist was fractured. If I hadn't been wearing a helmet it would have been a very different outcome, as I hit my head on the curb after I flipped over the vehicle. Two Good Samaritans in the former Kroger parking lot helped me by calling 911 and Jeffrey Bowman who was a block away.
I have a long recovery road ahead, but I am grateful to be alive. I have immeasurably appreciation for those in my circle who have helped in so many ways. Many thanks to Rosemary Fanning for dropping everything to care for me in my darkest hour. A mere Mother's Day tribute isn't close to enough.
I wanted to wait to post this until I had made enough progress to be optimistic, which I absolutely am. Advanced thanks to those whose help will get me through the coming months of hard work.
Please wear your helmets. Please leave nothing unsaid regarding those you love. You'll see me out and about gradually. I may seem different, but please smile and say hello. I assure you I'll be happy to be seen. XO 💚 -CF
