The Space Between

I painted this little watercolor while watching I Can Only Imagine. As I painted, I found myself thinking about how much of this piece is made up of empty space.

In art, the negative spaces are just as important as the trees. They create balance. They give the eye a place to rest. Without them, the painting would feel crowded and lose its impact.

Life works much the same way.

We often wish away the difficult seasons, the losses, disappointments, and unanswered questions. Yet those spaces shape us. They create contrast. They help us recognize joy when it arrives. They make room for growth, gratitude, and grace.

The shadows help us appreciate the light.

The hard chapters help us cherish the beautiful ones.

Just as the untouched paper allows these trees to breathe, the challenges in our lives often create space for strength, compassion, and hope to emerge.

Perhaps the negative spaces are not mistakes to erase.

Perhaps they are part of the composition. ,
