Big Check, Bigger Impact: Senior Center Receives $30,000
IDAHO CITY — Community leaders, business owners, and local organizations came together on Tuesday, October 27th, to present a generous donation to the Boise Basin Senior Center, helping support the center's ongoing programs and future needs.Boise Basin Senior Center Treasurer for the Board of Directors Theresa TenEyck welcomed attendees and recognized the community members gathered for the presentation."These are the movers and shakers in our community that wanted to come and see what we do in the senior center," TenEyck said. "All of you regulars know what we do. We do meals, we do food bank, we provide transportation to town, we have a gathering place, and we have fun. We wanted to welcome all these various community leaders."As a large ceremonial check representing a sum of thirty thousand dollars was unveiled, Chris Collins addressed the crowd."This is for you and the senior citizen center, and you spend that any way you see fit," Collins said.Following a round of applause, TenEyck jokingly raised her hand and asked, "Those going to Jackpot next weekend?" before turning serious about the impact of the donation."This will help us so much," she said. "We have an old building. We have old equipment. We can now replace things when we need to. This will go a long, long way for us."The donation was made possible through the combined efforts of Bobby Mathews of Idaho City Grocery, Steve Ellis of the Goldmine, business owner Trudy Jackson, Boise County Assessor Chris Juszczak, Boise County Commissioner Bob Callahan, Steve Callahan, Chris Collins, Boise County Sheriff Scott Turner, John Adams of Boise County Search and Rescue, Mari Adams representing the East Boise County Ambulance District, Steve Burns of the Idaho Community Foundation, Kevin Hildebrandt of the Clear Creek Lodge, Carter Elliott of the Idaho City Chamber of Commerce, ICHS Athletic Director Jason Roeber, and several other community supporters.Beyond the immediate impact of the donation, the gathering and the donation are proof of a commitment; the next generation of community leaders stepping forward to serve Idaho City and its residents.While there are concerns that the spirit of community service and involvement may fade as longtime leaders step away, efforts like this demonstrate that a new generation is ready and willing to carry that responsibility forward.The continued success of Idaho City depends not only on those who have dedicated years to serving the community, but also on those who are now stepping up, taking initiative, and working alongside established leaders for the common good. This donation serves as a reminder that the commitment to helping neighbors, supporting local organizations, and strengthening the community remains alive across generations.The contribution also marks a historic milestone for the Boise Basin Senior Center, representing the largest single donation in the organization’s history. The previous record stood at $25,000, making this contribution a significant achievement for the center and the community members who helped make it possible.Their collective contribution will help the Boise Basin Senior Center continue providing meals, transportation services, food assistance, and a welcoming gathering place for local seniors.
