Boise County Outdoor Burning Ordinance Activated
Due to recent wildfire events within Boise County and its surrounding communities and a recent increase in wildfire risk the Boise County Board of County Commissioners voted on Tuesday, June 2nd to activate the Boise County Outdoor Burning Ordinance 2025-06. The Ordinance annually goes into effect on July 1st through October 20th but went into effect immediately on June 2nd after the Board voted. Boise County Ordinance 2025-06 does not restrict campfires in approved fire structures but does restrict open burning outside of city limits. Check with your city about open burning and whether they have adopted Boise County Ordinance 2025-06. Burn Permits for open burning are required by state law annually between May 10th and October 20th statewide outside of city limits. These burn permits are free and regularly can be acquired through Idaho Department of Lands. On June 2nd Boise County sent a letter to Idaho Department of Lands to deactivate the burn permit process so permits for Boise County will no longer be permitted. Permits that were acquired through Idaho Department of Lands Prior to the deactivation are valid for 10 days after the permit issuance date. The Outdoor Burning Ordinance annually ends on October 20th unless Wildfire Risk remains high and the Boise County Board of County Commissioners votes to extend the time frame. Boise County Outdoor Burning Ordinance 2025-06 can be found on the Boise County Emergency Management Website for viewing.
