A NOTE ABOUT PROPANE REFILLS
We continue to have issues with people being aggressive with our staff over propane refills. A few things to note:
WE WILL NOT REFILL TANKS AFTER DARK OR WHEN THE LIGHTING IS INSUFFICIENT! This is very common among places that refill tanks. Some of the reasons for this:
-By law, we must inspect every tank before filling it. We cannot properly see the tanks when it is dark. We risk losing our license and put our staff in danger if we do not properly inspect tanks before refilling.
-We cannot see if a tank is leaking or propane is pooling if the light is insufficient. We also cannot see if the tank is venting.
-There is specific lighting for a propane refill station. It must be lighting that cannot spark or ignite propane. This lighting is expensive and we do not have it. Many propane refill places, similarly, do not have this lighting.
-It is not safe for our staff to be outside, one-on-one, with a stranger in the dark at the side of our building.
PLEASE STOP BERATING OUR STAFF WHEN THEY WON’T REFILL YOUR TANK. We have signs that say we don’t fill after dark. This has been our policy for several years. It is not new.
Additionally, during daylight hours, if staff inspect your tank and cannot fill it please don’t harass them about it. We are required to follow rules concerning the condition of your tank and each staff member has been trained and certified to pump propane. If they say they cannot fill it, they have a reason and will tell you why. It is not up for debate and abusing our staff will not get you a different answer.
If you have a very large tank, please know that these can be tricky/difficult to fill. We don’t get them often, so not all staff have had the opportunity to get practice with these. As a result, not all employees are comfortable refilling large tanks. Please call ahead if you want to fill one and make sure staff who are familiar are present.
We are fortunate to be able to refill propane tanks, especially in an area like ours where so many rely on this service in the winter months. We will not continue to provide this service if customers keep demanding our staff bend the rules.
