Monday! August 31st! We're OPEN! Until 9pm! *Store stuff* *Store stuff* Ok now onto Me! :-D
Post is long today and I have an *Edit to the video* In the video I said I was making a separate post about my day...I have adjusted that to the main post... There will not be a separate post!
So in yesterday's Shirtless Sunday's post, I informed you all that my daughter Devin had gotten me a Father's Day present that I was finally able to collect on! And let me tell you that this was one of the BEST gifts I've gotten!
There's a place that I hadn't heard of before North of Muskegon on US-31 called Lewis Adventure Farms and Zoo... Now I didn't know why we were even going to this place until we pulled into the driveway, but it seemed a strange destination to be sure but I trusted my daughter and wife that I would love my surprise so in we went...
My daughter picked up a map/brochure, which I quickly commandeered because, as Dad I was used to leading and also I like to know where we're going even when I'm not picking the direction we're headed... It's a control thing... This was the fatal error... π
Quick shoutout to the venue Lewis Adventure Farms and Zoo... It had a LOAD of things to do with animals and attractions a plenty... An aviary, otters, an emu, Highland Cows with horns and without, goats, kangaroos, wallabys, deer, capybarras, and creatures I know I'm leaving out but there were just A LOT! Oh, and you can feed most of them... π
They also had attractions...A decent size soak and splash pad, a kiddie tractor ride(This was not the surprise), pick your own flowers in a giant field of flowers, a milkshake bar, a regular bar!, Several food stands with a variety of choices, a giant dried corn pit(think sandbox but with corn), Oh and the thing that will likely bring me back when I have more time Apple Cannons! That's right, high-pressure cannons that shoot apples at targets like 50 to 100 yards down range, We didn't have time for these this time, but I'm going to need to try those next time! Again, there are other things, but we were under time constraints and didn't get to see them all... It was a pretty cool place I didn't know existed... But now I'll be back... Now, back to the surprise...
So we're wandering a bit checking out the animals near the front and heading towards the otters because Mrs Bosslady LOVES otters, so we're going to be sure to see them so that's a must!
And to be honest, I'm low-key scouring the map/brochure to try to figure out just what the hell I've been brought here to do... Because I STILL don't know! When we stop to check out another enclosure and I find on one of the folds a list that the Farm offers of "experiences." Now, this catches my eye because they have an Otter experience on the list, and I immediately think OH MY GOD we have to do this with Mrs Bosslady... Now, these are reserved days in advance and not an option for today, I'm sure, but the idea has been planted... However, the rest of the list of the experiences is a zookeeper experience, a capybarra experience, the otter experience, and a sloth experience... Now, almost none of you will know that when I was a brand new college student, I picked up the nickname Sloth, my laid-back attitude, and the game of Foosball where I operated at a slower yet still effective speed(think changeups in baseball) that led to the name being affixed to me rather quickly so I spent 2 years at MSU being called Sloth by nearly everyone who knew me... π. So I have an affinity for Sloths... They are my spirit animal if you will... So the idea of a Sloth experience sounded great! I thought that's another thing we'll need to come back and do... So I said to Mrs Bosslady "Hey they have a Sloth experience here," and Mrs. Bosslady replied, "Oh cool, they have sloths here," and walked off MUCH too quickly...
Now, as Forrest Gump says and clearly applied to me in that moment... "I am not a smart man," but I'm also like Sansa Stark... "I'm a slow learner... but I learn" It all suddenly clicked into place!
"Wait! Is that why we're here..." She replied,"I know nothing, " and walked further away, saying,"Stranger danger. " loudly so I wouldn't follow her... π My daughter turns toward us upon hearing us banter and I look at her and back to my wife my voice rising as it is fully dawning on me that I'm gonna get to do the Sloth Experience in like 45 minutes! "Is this why we're here? Seriously!?!" Not that they would, but I was NOT ready to be played with...I was actively stunned. I floated around that place for the rest of the wait time until low and behold, I was in a room with 2 Sloths... Sid and Brooke... And while we couldn't hold them, I did get to feed them and pet Brooke... Sid is a bit pickier, and we couldn't pet him, but he did like the avocado pieces we fed him, and Brooke had the softest soft fur... So for about 20 minutes or so we got to feed and hang out with 2 of the coolest animals! It was SO VERY COOL! I have checked off a thing on my bucket list. I didn't know I had all thanks to my daughter Devin , and it was recorded for me forever by Mrs Bosslady... It was an amazing gift! And an amazing day! Thank you, Devin!
So that's the story of my day Sunday! It was amazing!
Bossman (AKA Sloth) signing off!
