Friday AM update: "CONGRATULATIONS" to 100 meter AND 200 meter world champion, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden! She is the first U.S. woman to reach this accomplishment at the same World Championship.

U.S. Olympic gold medalist and 100-meter world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden will join fellow Olympian Twanisha “Tee Tee” Terry to headline the fifth annual Youth Track and Field Clinic at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

The first session, focused on sprints and hurdles, runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, October 4. Jefferson-Wooden, Terry and world-class athletes Tonea Marshall and Kyree King will attend the clinic to provide pointers, interact and take photos with youth attendees.

Jefferson-Wooden, a Grand Strand native and Coastal Carolina University graduate, is making her fourth appearance at the clinic. Her participation, along with Terry, Marshall and King, highlights the reach of Myrtle Beach sports and the city’s Sports Tourism Division.

Youth ages 6 to 18 may register for two clinics: Saturday, October 4, and Saturday, October 18. The first session covers sprints and hurdles, while the second session focuses on field events. Both clinics run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, 705 33rd Avenue North.

The cost is $15 for one clinic or $25 for both. Registration is required. Participants should wear athletic apparel and bring water, sunscreen, closed-toe running shoes, and, if available, event-specific shoes or spikes.

Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, Inc is excited to share its ongoing initiative in partnership with Dominion Energy for the constituents of Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg Counties. To provide emergency relief, Waccamaw EOC is offering assistance with Dominion Energy utility bills through the Share the Light Program. These funds are available for Dominion Energy customers only. All funding is subject to availability and requires an application to be completed. Contact your local Community Action Agency Office for more information.
