Our Driftless Glen Distillery bourbon barrel was selected in honor of our Hartsville Store Manager, Lori. She is a breast cancer survivor. Here is her story…
“In 2006, at the age of 39, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I would like to say that I routinely did self examinations, but that wasn't the case. Fortunately, I had kicked up my exercise routine, and during a morning stretch, found something I never thought I would. Even with no family history, I just knew that something was wrong. With help from my doctor and friend, Leroy Robinson, I was able to see specialists immediately and was scheduled for surgery within 2 weeks. So thankful everything went quickly because those were the longest weeks of my life. Even though I am a positive person, I couldn't stop bad thoughts from sneaking into my head. The worst thoughts were leaving my 7 and 9 year old children without their mother. So each day, I prayed and put on a good face so they didn't have to know the severity of it and be scared. After a successful operation and 8 months of chemotherapy and radiation, I was cancer free!! Couldn't have gone through this time without the love, prayers, and support of my friends and family.”
