Sherlock's Home was started in
1975 by Allen Bloomberg and his friend.
Andrea Frates and Her husband, who she divorced in 1998, bought it in 1981.
Sherlock's was originally located in what was called the upper level of Holiday Village Mall.
In 1998 Andrea moved Sherlock's to 2926 10th Avenue South.
Then in 2006 Andrea moved Sherlock's to to 2922 10th Avenue South.
Andrea retired in 2023 closing the store.
She tried to carry products she thought customers would enjoy and filled the cigar room with the ci**rs she hoped customers would love.
Andrea Frates died in August 2025 from a very long illness.
Going to work everyday was a pleasure never work and she enjoyed her customers very much.
Thanks to each and every one of you.
Andrea was lucky enough to.meet the cigar greats like Arturo Fuente, Carlos Torano, Rocky Patel, and the rest of them at the Cigar trade shows. She got to visit with them and hear their stories personally.
Carlos's stor was very interesting as he was very good friends with Castro until after the revolution Castro took his farm. Carlos escaped and was able to start over with help from some of his friends in the industry, thank heavens as his ci**rs were VERY GOOD.
The Fuentes family was very kind and threw a very memorable party in Tampa Florida for all of us one year. They rented a gaming place so we could race the cars, play s***t ball, video games, so much fun!!! Plus they gave us very nice gifts and ci**rs.
General cigar had a party for us in New Orleans one year and the food was the best stuff we ever ate. The music was amazing and the free ci**rs and gifts were outstanding.
Thank you to the companies in the industry that took good care of us at the trade shows and all the years.
The industry changed during those long years and the government deciding it could TAX US TO DEATH. It sure made it hard for many to survive when the government decides they want to impose ridiculous taxes on YOUR LIVELIHOOD. You should be so lucky to have it happen to you.
Hopefully all of you that enjoy ci**rs will be able to continue to do so with new proprietors coming into the industry.
