Meet the man behind Plaza Liquor — Michael Ruth!

With over a decade as a liquor sales rep in Southern Oregon before taking over the store in 2019, Michael brings product knowledge to every shelf. He’s a board member of the Associated Liquor Stores of Oregon and has worked closely with the OLCC, including as a pilot store for their new Point of Sale system.

But beyond the industry, Michael’s focus has always been community — building a team and a store that’s about more than just bottles on a shelf. As he puts it: “Life’s about balance — making time for family, fun, and creating unforgettable memories.” Also huge Star Wars fan! ⚔️

🌵 Fun fact about Mezcal Vago Espadín by Joel Barriga: this bottle is crafted at Hacienda Tapanala in Oaxaca, where Joel — a third-generation mezcalero — crushes his agave using a traditional tahona (stone wheel) and double distills it in copper pot stills. It’s made with 100% Espadín agave, the most widely cultivated variety used for mezcal in Mexico.

The result is one of the brightest, most fruit-forward mezcals in the entire Vago lineup — smooth, complex, and rooted in generations of family tradition. 🇲🇽
