We are a family-owned business started in 1984 by Beth the same year Danny her son was born. Danny (Beth's Son) became the 2nd generation to own the business in 2015. We make all of our fudge in the middle of the store. We mail fudge!

🛥️Annual Devil Track Boat Parade –1:30 PM!
Celebrate Independence Day with us on the lake! The annual Devil Track Boat Parade kicks off Friday, July 4th at 1:30 PM, with boaters beginning to line up at 1 PM in front of Skyport Lodge’s dock. Join in the parade or watch from the dock.

If you are like me you have more than one favorite. My favorites are Peanut Butter Chocolate, Maple Nut, Dark Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt, Milk Chocolate Caramel, Pumpkin, Salted Caramel Toffee....the list could go on and on! ♡

Memorial Day at the Cook County Courthouse at 11:00 am for a program honoring Veterans.

The American Legion, Post 413 and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 413 will be hosting a luncheon following the ceremony at the Birch Terrace. Lunch will be free for Veterans and spouses, but all are welcome. The meals is $15 for others. There will be a drawing for a quilt made by Carol Morgen to a Veteran.

Beth’s Fudge and Gifts...the short and long story!

We are a family owned business started in 1984. It was started the year that Danny was born! We make all of our fudge in the middle of the store. Roughly 30 flavors served! What’s your favorite? We also mail fudge!

Now for the longer story... Beth and Tim are two hippies. People that believe they can make the world a better place - especially though hard work. They fell in love hitchhiking to a protest. Beth a elementary teacher and Tim a geography - planning and zoning major at St. Cloud State. Beth the first in her family to get a bachelors degree.

At the ripe age of 25 they started raising a foster daughter (a tween) while living in the cities. They then moved to little old Grand Marais - when Tim got a job here...only thinking it would be for a short time because they were cities kids. They rented a home and had a hard time paying the heating bills during the cold winter... just like so many others that are young people starting out.

But they found their place here. Beth worked at a substitute teacher and and then as a social worker in Grand Marais while Tim worked for the county. They cared for handfuls of foster kids - emergency and long term foster care while living in GM.

They tried their best to make a living in Grand Marais...they bought a home doing the inside finishing work themselves, and built their own garage with friends and family physical help.

After graduating 2 foster kids from Cook County High School (Beth was only 31), Beth had a baby (Kelsey) and started a small used clothing store called the Inch Worm with a friend (before the days of boreal.org or the facebook sell and swap’s) at the same time she started a group providing early childhood education to parents as well as activities for children. She grew that used clothing business with her friend to the point of needing a business space after the used clothing were taking up her business partners home. With a loan she purchased the old old news herald building and rented out parts of the building to other small business (a yard store, a photographer, etc) including Inch Worm's Used Clothing Shop and Beth's Sweet Creations (Fudge...maybe you remember when she used to sell scoops of fudge in tiny ice cream cones) in the building that they named Village On TheBay. Beth's father had always cooked up fudge for their family on Sundays...a memorable sweet treat so that made a connection for her. This same year Danny was born (which makes it easy to keep track of how many years the store has been around). As things evolved for some of these small business (all run by women) located in Village On The Bay they found bigger locations or closed their store doors...leaving Beth to find new renters or take over the space herself...this is the start of what you know today.

To fill one of the spaces they even started a Coney Island Stand for a summer - selling Coney Islands hot dogs, soups, and more!

By the mid 80's Village On The Bay - A Lake Superior gift/t-shirt/fudge shop selling all the things that are favorites at stores along sea side shores had come together. After years of people calling the store Beth’s she decided to change the name to Beth’s Fudge and Gifts! Village On The Bay - Beth’s Fudge and Gifts became a shore side classic for visitors. Her children both worked in the store over the years. Danny Kennedy her son (the red head) took over ownership of Beth's Fudge and Gifts with continued guidance and help from Beth in 2015.

You might think that means Beth isn't in the stores....not true at all. She is often a fill in staff person or helping behind the scenes. She has also taken on the role of Grandma and is babysitting her Grandchildren several days a week.
