Dear Grand Island -

After nearly 20 years of ownership, we are passing the torch of the Grand Island Food Mart to a new team. That’s right, Joe and Mama are finally retiring.

Thank you for sharing your life’s moments with us - from scratch ticket wins to job promotions to growing families and even the heartbreaks in between. It has been a great pleasure building friendships with you and your families through the years, and we will miss the friends and familiar faces we’ve gotten to know.

We hope you will be patient and welcoming with the new operators as they get established. And although our little slice of Lake County seems to be growing and expanding, we hope it never loses its charm and neighborly roots. ��Thursday will be our last official day at the Grand Island Food Mart. We hope you’ll be able to stop by for final hello and goodbyes.

We will miss you, Grand Island. Thank you.

Hello (again) Grand Island!

As many folks know by now, there has been a change of management at the Grand Island Food Mart/Sunoco on CR 44. Longtime residents of Grand Island will remember the familiar faces store owners, my parents Joe and Mama.

In the coming weeks and months, please expect several changes and improvements as we settle in. Yes, the Lottery will be back - there is a currently a shortage of lottery machine parts in the state, which has put a bit of a delay. Yes, the kitchen will reopen - contingent on licenses, permits, and repairs. Additionally, we are working tirelessly with various distributors and sales reps to find better deals for our neighborhood. We appreciate your patience as get the store back into tip top shape.

On a personal note: my parents have been running convenient stores and gas stations since the 1980s, from Philadelphia to Tacoma to Atlanta and alas, Grand Island. In their 40 years of experience, they spoke the most fondly of their time here in Grand Island. I was still in college when they first took over the store in 2006 so I was rarely here, but they often spoke of all the customers who welcomed them into this small but wonderful community.

It’s been really lovely witnessing so many of you reconnect with my parents, and nice to finally put faces to so many anecdotes I’ve heard over the years - stories of true kindness, generosity, and understanding. They’ve watched so many of you grow up, from kids to adults with kids of your own! And so many of you have helped my parents in and around the store, and for that, please know I’ve been truly grateful.

Please feel free to stop in and say hello - if you’re a new face, we’d love to meet you! And if you’re an old friend, it’s nice to see you again. Thank you for welcoming us back.
