Here are some before and after pictures of a table we delivered last week to a customer near Evans City. He called me before Christmas asking if we could modify his existing table. The table was made from two walnut slabs that were never kiln dried properly and so they were badly warped as well as sun bleached. There was also an air gap down the middle. They wanted the slabs flattened and the gap between the slabs filled with resin. It was a very tricky project because the slabs were already thin so we flattened them as best we could. The end result was a much flatter, much better looking tabletop!

It was a busy week this week. We were working on 5 slabs and a kitchen island all at once. 4 deliveries this week and two more on Monday!

Just delivered this walnut dining table today. Quite an adventure. The slabs had a lot of twist to them so flattening them was tricky but they turned out well. Almost a bit of a disaster when my assistant slipped on the wet surface while carrying the tabletop into the client's house and almost dropped the tabletop. My heart skipped a beat, but he managed to regain his footing and held on. 😳 disaster averted!
Clients loved the table and want 5 more: a coffee table, two end tables, and two round tables for an upstairs sitting area.

One of the biggest, and CRAZIEST walnut slabs we've worked on in a while. The saw blade wandered while it was being slabbed at the sawmill resulting in some rather thick sections. Consequently, some of the inner parts of the slab are still wet, even after air drying several months and going through the kiln.

I absolutely love the figuring and the live edge on this maple cookie.

Before and after stabilizing that big maple cookie with resin. The resin helps seal the wood and make it easier to plane and sand without getting tear out.

Working on a bartop slab for a customer's ski lodge in Hidden Valley. They looked at some of my previous works and really loved the cobalt blue.
First: a shallow pour of blue. Then on Monday, when the deep pour resin arrives, we'll pour clear over top of it so the features can still be seen.

Just about done flattening the slabs. On Monday we'll trim them and glue them together.

More milling. This process took several hours and flipping the slabs over multiple times.

More pictures of the walnut slabs that are going to be turned into a dining table. A lot of careful milling involved because of the amount of twist in the slabs. If we're not careful, we could mill off too much resulting in slabs that are too thin and too weak.
