This week, we're showcasing Buttonwood Grove Winery

Buttonwood Grove Winery was purchased by Skaneateles natives Dave and Melissa Pittard back in 2014. Dave had grown up on an orchard, where at a young age he developed a love of farming and a care for the natural resources of the land, passions which were further fostered while attending the Cornell College of Agriculture. Over the years, Dave has managed and expanded the vineyards with a thoughtful approach to both labor and the environment, and were among the first wineries in the state to be awarded the New York Certificate of Sustainability.

Buttonwood Grove is beloved for their classic Rieslings and delectable Cabernet Francs, but they also succeed in offering fresh, new takes on traditional varietals, including two of my personal favorites: Cabernet Franc Rosè Pet Nat, and Blanc de Franc, a white wine made from red grapes! Both are sure to kick-start your summer in the best way possible. Come by and have a sip!

Did you know that natural wine corks are typically not accepted by curbside recycling ♻️ programs?

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we’ve partnered with ReCORK as an official cork collection location📍 Save those corks from that dinner party, and bring em with you to dispose of next time you shop with us! We’ll make sure they get upcycled into a raw material that’s perfect for replacing environmentally harmful petroleum-based foams and plastics in consumer products 🙌🏼

Note: natural cork is also compostable! 🍃 So friends, however you decide to dispose of yours, think twice before chucking them in a landfill!

Mike Penn and Ria D’Aversa may be new to the Finger Lakes, but they’re no strangers to crafting excellent wine with terroir in mind. 

Ria brings a background in viticulture and organic farming, while Michael brings a wealth of experience in winemaking. Having previously worked in California, Italy, France and New Zealand, Ria and Mike are on a mission to put their collective knowledge into new soil.

They moved to the Finger Lakes in 2021 in search of the best terroir in New York for growing wine grapes. Their wines are naturally produced, unfined, and ecologically farmed.

🍷 Ktima Brintziki Melios White 2022 - $18

Known as Greece’s first “green” winery, is a boutique winery in the Western Peloponnese producing organic wines from ancient varietals. They make use of geothermal energy and photovoltaic systems for heating and cooling, resulting in a zero carbon footprint. The Melios White is  rich and refreshing, with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple and kiwi with ripe stone fruit and citrus. The blend is composed of two local varieties: Roditis and Malagouzia. 

🍷 Six Eighty Cellars Field Report Red 2021 - $18 

Rising 680ft from the bottom of Cayuga Lake to the uppermost point of the estate, is a family owned winery and relative newcomer on the Finger Lakes wine scene. They were among the first wineries in the Finger Lakes to achieve the New York Sustainable Winegrowing Certification, a process by which vineyards demonstrate a commitment to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Though known predominantly for their use of amphorae vessels, the Field Report series takes a more traditional approach to a “house-style”. The blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Pinot Meunier and 10% Syrah was aged in French oak for 18 months, resulting in a medium-bodied, easy drinking red with notes of jammy raspberry, wild strawberries and hints of cedar.
