I want to share that at the end of this year, we will be closing the Dockside Treasures storefront as you’ve known it.

When we purchased Dockside Treasures in 2018, we stepped into an island tradition that began in 1989. So many memories live here — from our daughter hugging Cora the Orca years before we ever imagined owning the shop, to our dog Ruby greeting visitors, to seeing so many island kids gain their very first work experience within these walls.

While Dockside Treasures as a retail shop is coming to an end, this is not a goodbye to the space itself. We’re planning to retain the lease and reimagine it in a new way — supporting our other business, San Juan Island Roasters, with coffee packaging, an office for mail order, and a small retail footprint and tasting room. It’s all still very much in the works, with hopes of a spring launch.

Like many long-standing island businesses, we’ve felt the changing rhythms of retail, the broader economic pressures, and the unique challenges of operating a business on the island. I’m grateful to every employee who has been part of Dockside Treasures over the years, and especially to Jana Meredith and Gabby Serrano — their dedication and care have meant more than I can express.

I’ve attached a slideshow of photos to help me remember these days as much as to share them — small moments, familiar faces, and the heart of the place.

And while I won’t miss unpacking, pricing and moving endless boxes of merchandise or the summer restock runs, I will miss the very island moments that came with it — like the curious turkeys who lived next to our warehouse and regularly wandered over to check on my productivity.

Thank you for being part of the Dockside Treasures story. This space is entering a new era, and I’m excited to see what it becomes.
