The Vikings were famous for their feasting and frivolity. Consuming copious amounts of alcohol was a part of everyday life in most Viking societies. Yet one drink was prized above all else. With its ancient roots, mead was favored by the wealthy and elite, with one resembling the color of blood prized above all else.

Hibiscus gives Viking Blod, meaning blood, its characteristic reddish color, evocative of the blood Vikings spilled in their fierce battles, hence the name. However, this mead is completely harmless, with a sweet, floral taste.

Halloween 2026 takes place on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Because it lands on a Saturday, it is the first Saturday Halloween since 2020, and the next one will not occur until 2037.

I’m not sure just how many people understand what’s going on with one particular superhero these days. Yes, he has billion-dollar-earning movies, but beyond that, he has captured an entire generation of very young fans and he has absolutely no equal in the superhero space. And it is no surprise that he’s the most popular Halloween costume of 2026. It is estimated that 3.8 million people will be Spider-Man this year.

National Cat Day on October 29th is the purrfect day to give extra attention, treats, and appreciation to the independent, often hilarious, felines who grace our lives.

Cats make excellent, if opinionated, companions. They rarely miss you, but when they do, you certainly know it—usually in the form of a synchronized head-butt, a sudden case of zoomies at 3:00 AM, or a perfect loaf positioned exactly where you need to sit. National Cat Day is a celebration of all these unique cat quirks and the joy they bring.
