Attention Elk River families with children 👧 👦 Looking for fishing pole 🎣 donations please! 🤗
MN Roots is interested in hosting the second “Rugrats, Rods, & Reels” in most likely September this year! 🤞 It’s an action packed day for families with children! You get outside, learn how to fish, hear the ooh’s & aww’s from the children’s mouths, FREE face paintings, a food truck, and more! It’s the perfect family Saturday: some vitamin D ☀️ food, faces, & fun! I’m anticipating partnering up with a police department again as well. The kids will be able to check out the cool cars, SUV’s, trucks, you know… stuff that ignites a child’s imagination!
One of the best parts about it is the child gets to take home and keep the fishing rod to make new memories after the event! 🥰
Please check your garage’s/cabins/attics/cellars/crawl spaces & grandpa’s house 🤭 & bring your fishing pole donations to the store. 🤗 I will clean them, give them new line if need be, give them a bobber/new hook, and get them ready to donate to children learning to fish! Do not worry about cleaning them as I love to do this attentive task while my wife crochets 😂 It’s also ok to bring me a rod without a reel or vise versa. I’ll pair them.
Last event I hosted I needed about 100 rods/reels. This event I’m anticipating to be bigger, so we’ll take all the donations we can get Elk River 🙏 I don’t think anything makes my heart more full than this day! The smile’s on the children’s faces + the laughter 😆 ! Especially when they get to touch a fishy 🐟 they just caught. They think it’s so funny/silly! It’s going to be a blast Elk River! I’ll keep you all posted on the date, so you can set your calendars 🗓️
If you don’t have any fishing poles 🎣 but want to help you can donate cash that we will use to go to garage sales/pawn shops/Walmart to pick up more affordable poles/bobbers/line/hooks for the children! It’s a ton of fun!
Many times a garage sale is willing to donate to the cause (since we’re donating to children who’ve never had a pole before), or give us a deal on the poles. Shopping for these poles I found can be fun 😊
Once I have a date + location I’ll post again. I’ll then need (not yet) people to donate their time. Some examples will be:
A) Volunteer to be a face painter 🧑🎨 ,
b) Volunteer to split worms 🪱 /put corn on hooks (some people want worms, and some families dont want the worm to be broken so they do corn)
C) Volunteer to get fish off hooks safely🪝
D) Volunteer to spend time pairing a child with their new pole, guiding them to an open fishing spot, and teaching them how to use it if need be.
Let the donations begin! FYI I absolutely love cleaning old Zebco reels for the kids, because they’re so easy for them to use! Plus they’re nostalgic/awesome 🤩 Thank you to all who help! 🩵🎣
