I think by now you all have received your monthly club selections for October, and I hope you enjoyed this month's mix. I tried to bring out some new brands you may not have tried before, some classics, and some that you won't find anywhere else!
Let me tell you a little bit about that Definition P5vot Maduro...
The first thing that caught my attention about Definition Ci**rs at PCA this year wasn’t a sales pitch. It was that green fabric band.
Most cigar bands are made from paper, so seeing one made from fabric immediately made me stop and take a closer look. It was different, intentional, and memorable. Once I sat down with one of the founders and heard the story behind Definition, I realized the band was only the beginning.
This is a brand built around meaning. The names, colors, and details all have a purpose, and every cigar carries a piece of history with it. By the time our conversation ended, I knew Definition was a brand I wanted represented in A Story to Tell.
The Pi5ot Maduro was the obvious place to begin.
The name comes from the pivot foot in basketball. It represents keeping a strong foundation while creating space, adjusting to what is in front of you, and putting yourself in position for the next opportunity. Even the “5” has meaning, paying tribute to the number Jalen Rose wore for most of his basketball career.
The Kelly green fabric band officially honors Slippery Rock University and Hall of Famer Cee Russell, another important influence behind the cigar’s story. But as someone who played basketball from an early age, I saw that color and immediately thought about my Seattle SuperSonics.
I still miss the Sonics dearly. Any Seattle basketball fan understands that feeling. Between the green, the basketball inspiration, and the story behind the cigar, there was no question this had to be the first Definition cigar I shared through the club.
Fortunately, the cigar itself delivers far more than a great story and a memorable band.
The Pi5ot Maduro is wrapped in a dark Mexican San Andrés leaf over an Ecuadorian binder and Nicaraguan fillers. It has the richness you expect from San Andrés, but it doesn’t simply hit you with strength. The blend is structured and balanced, with dark cocoa, roasted coffee, earth, leather, and cedar leading the way. Black pepper adds bite, while natural maduro sweetness rounds everything out.
As it develops, I find notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and charred oak coming forward. It has enough depth for an experienced smoker, but it remains smooth enough that the strength never overwhelms the flavors. Like a good point guard, everything has a role, and the cigar knows how to control the pace.
That combination of story, presentation, and performance is what made this selection stand out to me. The Pi5ot isn’t a cigar that was given a basketball theme after the blend was finished. The idea of movement, balance, discipline, and knowing when to make your next move is built into its identity.
It also represents exactly what I want this club to do. I want to introduce you to brands you may not have encountered on your own, especially when there are good people and meaningful stories behind the ci**rs. Definition may have first caught my attention with a fabric band, but it was the conversation and the cigar that earned its place in the box.

For me, the Definition Pi5ot Maduro is where a great cigar story, my love of basketball, and a little Seattle nostalgia all meet. I’m excited for you to experience it.
