Say hello to Corte Giovanni Prosecco Rosé...

Just a few miles south of the beating heart of Prosecco, Valdobbiadene, is the Societa Agricola Colli Asolani di Bedin where Corte Giovanni is made. This third-generation producer was founded in 1948 by Giacomo Bedin where the family has long specialized in Prosecco grown on the gentle slopes of the Colli Asolani hills. This is made from Glera, the classic grape of Prosecco, but a small amount of Pinot Noir is blended in for color and richness.

Sparkling rosé is one of my summertime favorite treats. It's just like the rosé I love on a hot summer day - just bubbly and more fun 😂

As I have opined on many occasions recently, I really love producers that are trying to see how they can stretch the boundaries on what is possible in terms of quality and price (in a good way of course). Mission accomplished on this one.

Isn’t rosé wine one of the clearest harbingers of spring and summer? Sure, rosé is enjoyed year-round now, but as outdoor drinking becomes an actual possibility, the arrival of cool, wet drinks is the true representative of the renewal of life, at least for the wine lover. The 2024 release of our #1 selling rosé of all time arrived in time for the official start of summer - and we are PUMPED UP!

This week is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL across Georgia and the Carolinas (sunny and 75 for the weekend?!?!) so the chance of us opening up multiple bottles of this over the holiday weekend are strong to quite strong.

Why is the wine so special? (Aside from the fact that it has sold 8 bajillion bottles since its release in 2018...😂)

Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

I know what I'm drinking tonight...right when I get home!

Let's just say Total Wine is selling the entry level estate Pinot Noir bottling from Patricia Green for $37.99 - so there's that...

Patricia Green was a legend in Oregon. Maybe not that many people knew about her outside Oregon, but within the community of Pinot Noir winemakers, Patty was someone you listened to because she knew so much. While she did some great stuff putting Torii Mor on the map, when she opened her own place in 2000, she was free to make even more amazing wines. Okay, there’s a lot of wonderful Pinot in Oregon, but Patty Green rises far above the field.

Patty Green left us too soon in 2017, but her legacy as one of the most gifted winemakers in the world of Oregon Pinot Noir lives on through her business partner Jim Anderson.

I’ve never had a bad Pinot from Patricia Green, but their Anderson Family Vineyard bottling is next level. Up until we were able to cut this deal, I had only even seen a bottle a handful of times.

But they were replanted with purpose; the barrel industry returned and has dominated the idea of top flight wine ever since. Yet, American oak is crucial to many other wine regions: Spain, Australia, the U.S., maybe even Silver Oak (they love that vanilla smell). So this is a southern French Cab with American oak’s lashing of coconut and sawdust – the classic aromas of American oak barrels.

What's the full story on this wine?

The beautiful Château de la Roche Bousseau was constructed in 1433, though much of it was destroyed after the French Revolution and rebuilt thereafter. Vines were planted in 1791 and have grown to almost 200 acres of Chenin Blanc and the other usual Loire Valley grapes.

Chenin creates a simple enough wine in most places, but in Anjou the grape offers wines that can be complex, complete and exciting - and this wine has that in spades. It also doesn't hurt that the bottle is in some beautiful etched glass, and the label is pure awesomeness.

We guarantee everything we sell (if you ever don't like something you can bring it back for any reason and we will either give you store credit or a full refund - your choice), but I'm not sure I've ever been as sure about a white wine as I am about this one!

For the first time since March of 2023, the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone blind tasting has returned due to overwhelming demand (who doesn't love blind tastings?!?!?)

Like we have said many times before, if you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Belle Glos" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will be tasted blind on the tasting machine. One of them will be 2023 Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone" Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of Pinot etc. at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Belle Glos, then great, if not, well that's OK too. Should we kick of the start to March Madness with a little "Madness" of our own?

The biggest sale we run every spring is Benières for $9.99, and the day has finally arrived.

Benières Pinot Noir, which you all have gobbled up to the tune of more than 238,000 bottles (that is a lot of wine) in the last 48 months, is a staple in my house and now - more than ever - the type of value it is delivering is a very welcome thing for me.

We told you back in December that for the 5th year in a row Benières Pinot Noir and Chardonnay didn't win the voting here for our Wine of the Year, but maybe they should have. First off, TGIF...am I right?

Second, I can tell you without one ounce of hesitation in my body that this will be the greatest bottle of Bordeaux you are ever going to try for $25.00...and it is one that can even last 40 years.

People tell you all the time that only the most expensive wines can go that distance...and those people are wrong.

I will challenge anyone reading this to find better quality Bordeaux for less than $75 per bottle. I’d even put this wine up against Bordeaux I’ve tasted in the $150-$250 per bottle range. No joke.

Saint-Émilion is the oldest area of Bordeaux and its Roman ruins are a frequent reminder. Still, when the region was getting codified, Saint-Émilion was left out – it was sleepy and nearly forgotten. That changed in the 1990s when the garagiste movement of tiny Saint-Émilion wineries started making stunning, trend-setting wines. So the “Old” Jacques Bertrand Estate of Chateau Carteau is both Old School and modern all at the same time.

Chateau Carteau is a very typical Saint-Émilion blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and it sees a bit more new oak than is typical at this price point. Half new and half one-year-old barrels generate more spice and weight in the mouth and, in a vintage like 2022, that is just right.

Also, just to celebrate all things awesome like wines like this, we'll have it on the tasting machine at all 9 stores through Sunday for only $0.01. Because we love you, and that's how we roll.

So let's get to it on this awesome Friday. One thing I know for certain today, is I am opening a bottle of this tonight 🤣...

Beuchottes hails from the Languedoc-Roussillon, a region of France where Pinot Noir can prosper, but only in the cooler spots. As you have probably guessed, the components for this little gem come from some of the coolest areas in the region. That said, the main goal here was to marry a traditional and elegant French style of winemaking while highlighting some of the vibrant complexity you find in larger reds from the Languedoc - and Beuchottes accomplishes that in spades.

Things I love include Pinot Noir, and great wines priced nearly half the price of a twice baked potato the grocery charged me for the other day. (Seriously, what is going on out there with grocery prices??)
