Today, and honestly the rest of the week, is going to be bonkers.

Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

As many of you may have seen, Orange County experienced what’s being called a “100-year flood” this past Sunday — with some areas receiving over 10 inches of rain in just 24 hours. Unfortunately, our Chapel Hill store was hit hard (see the photo above).

The most important news: all of our team members are safe. While the damage to the store is significant, we’re counting our blessings — especially in light of the heartbreaking flooding events in Texas.

We’re already working on getting the Chapel Hill location back open as quickly as possible. When we do, you’ll be greeted with a refreshed space — including some brand-new tasting machines we’re excited to share with you.

We’ve been incredibly moved by how many of you have stopped by or reached out asking how you can help. The Chapel Hill community continues to amaze us with your kindness, resilience, and spirit of togetherness.

Online orders for Chapel Hill will hopefully (famous last words) reopen by the end of this week, and we’ll make sure they’re delivered right to your door. We’re not quite sure how long the full recovery will take, but we’re in this together — and we’re up for the challenge.

Say hello to Corte Giovanni Prosecco Rosé...

Just a few miles south of the beating heart of Prosecco, Valdobbiadene, is the Societa Agricola Colli Asolani di Bedin where Corte Giovanni is made. This third-generation producer was founded in 1948 by Giacomo Bedin where the family has long specialized in Prosecco grown on the gentle slopes of the Colli Asolani hills. This is made from Glera, the classic grape of Prosecco, but a small amount of Pinot Noir is blended in for color and richness.

Sparkling rosé is one of my summertime favorite treats. It's just like the rosé I love on a hot summer day - just bubbly and more fun 😂

As I have opined on many occasions recently, I really love producers that are trying to see how they can stretch the boundaries on what is possible in terms of quality and price (in a good way of course). Mission accomplished on this one.

Isn’t rosé wine one of the clearest harbingers of spring and summer? Sure, rosé is enjoyed year-round now, but as outdoor drinking becomes an actual possibility, the arrival of cool, wet drinks is the true representative of the renewal of life, at least for the wine lover. Let's just say Total Wine is selling the entry level estate Pinot Noir bottling from Patricia Green for $37.99 - so there's that...

Patricia Green was a legend in Oregon. Maybe not that many people knew about her outside Oregon, but within the community of Pinot Noir winemakers, Patty was someone you listened to because she knew so much. While she did some great stuff putting Torii Mor on the map, when she opened her own place in 2000, she was free to make even more amazing wines. Okay, there’s a lot of wonderful Pinot in Oregon, but Patty Green rises far above the field.

Patty Green left us too soon in 2017, but her legacy as one of the most gifted winemakers in the world of Oregon Pinot Noir lives on through her business partner Jim Anderson.

I’ve never had a bad Pinot from Patricia Green, but their Anderson Family Vineyard bottling is next level. Up until we were able to cut this deal, I had only even seen a bottle a handful of times.

You can read more about the vineyard here, but let’s just say these people know what they are doing, and they do it better than almost anyone else in Oregon (dare I say, also the United States?).

What is even more insane, is that in the one e-mail we have sent about this wine (and I just read this and it kinda gave me chills), I told you - as kindof a joke - that Seigneur du Feu was basically like Silver Oak but only for $10 because of the use of American Oak in the wine. 👀

"Throughout the last two centuries of winedom, French wine has been aged in French oak. Or has it? In the 19th century, French forests, planted for warships, were plentiful enough for barrels too. In the early 20th century, barrels made from Eastern European oak became more common, especially after WWI decimated French forests. But they were replanted with purpose; the barrel industry returned and has dominated the idea of top flight wine ever since. Yet, American oak is crucial to many other wine regions: Spain, Australia, the U.S., maybe even Silver Oak (they love that vanilla smell). So this is a southern French Cab with American oak’s lashing of coconut and sawdust – the classic aromas of American oak barrels.

What's the full story on this wine?

The beautiful Château de la Roche Bousseau was constructed in 1433, though much of it was destroyed after the French Revolution and rebuilt thereafter. Vines were planted in 1791 and have grown to almost 200 acres of Chenin Blanc and the other usual Loire Valley grapes.

Chenin creates a simple enough wine in most places, but in Anjou the grape offers wines that can be complex, complete and exciting - and this wine has that in spades. It also doesn't hurt that the bottle is in some beautiful etched glass, and the label is pure awesomeness.

We guarantee everything we sell (if you ever don't like something you can bring it back for any reason and we will either give you store credit or a full refund - your choice), but I'm not sure I've ever been as sure about a white wine as I am about this one!

For the first time since March of 2023, the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone blind tasting has returned due to overwhelming demand (who doesn't love blind tastings?!?!?)

Like we have said many times before, if you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The problem is that you can't out "market" a blind tasting.

Which is why we're playing "Find the Belle Glos" this Saturday. It's simple really. Eight wines will be tasted blind on the tasting machine. One of them will be 2023 Belle Glos "Clark & Telephone" Pinot Noir and the others will be an assortment of Pinot etc. at every price point from a number of different regions. All you have to do is taste and pick your favorite. Yes, that's right, your favorite. If that's the Belle Glos, then great, if not, well that's OK too. You may be surprised as to what your favorites actually are.
