We’ve read too many other businesses write fond farewell letters over the past few months. Now it’s our turn.
We’ve been selling retail wine, beer, and Spirits for almost 15 years. When we started, we couldn’t be open on Sunday. Since then we’ve seen a lot of changes: the rise of seltzers and vapes, the disappearance of glass beer bottles, plastic bags get banned and the end of 3.2% beer. We survived the one-day prohibition of 2020, COVID, two years of bike line construction on Broadway, break-ins, theft, and the ceiling flood. We both had kids and moved out of Baker. We’ve lost our legendary first shop dog, and had a great protégé take over.
We recycled over 200 pounds of cork and donated to dozens of charitable requests.
We’ve always sold products we believe in and supported the distributors who bring these unique products to our marketplace. We’ve never added a tip line or any fees.
The recent economic trends have been challenging for our shop, and other small independents are up against nearly insurmountable odds.
We’ve seen bigger or better managed stores close, and too often we see local wholesalers and breweries close, bars and restaurants struggle and the entire alcohol industry get reconsolidated. Inflation, and rising cost in every category have left us in uphill battle we can’t seem to win. We have been impacted by rising: rent, wages, taxes, and fees. Overall alcohol sales are down. The cost of being in business only goes up
We are having a hard time, surviving the grocery stores getting access to Wine and Liquor. We are unable to extend our lease with these current circumstances.
Our last day in business will be sometime in January 2026
We cannot thank you enough for the amazing support you, our community, have you bestowed on us. It has been our pleasure to provide this public service to Baker and Denver. We will miss all of our adventurous, quality seeking guests and friends. It was our privilege getting to chat about the products, our music we are playing or the game on TV.
Please come by as we will continue to provide the best products and service that we can until the lights go down on Broadway.
Cheers
