Our 2024 Wh**ky of the Year? The Port Charlotte 18 year from !

When you've got a bar full of 300 whiskies, but you keep coming back to one bottle, you know it's a winner. Take that one step further and I actively had to stop drinking this one earlier in the year just to save some for our Best In Class 2024 episode where we ultimately finished it off.

This wh**ky is stunning. Everything about it is perfection from the age, barrel profile, proof, ppm, and flavors throughout the drinking experience. I always say it's like liquid lemon drop candies tossed into a campfire, but that's a gross over simplification as there's always more unique notes to find on the nose, palate, and finish. There's deep complexity here with unparalleled layers of rich flavors to find and enjoy.

Moving on to our 2024 Rye of the Year - we've selected the collaboration with ! Another controversial pick as this is a blend of two straight rye whiskies from Indiana that are finished in Amrut Indian malt wh***ey barrels back blended with 3 well aged Kentucky straight bourbon whiskies. While the composite doesn't meet the criteria for a "straight rye" the overall blend is 63% rye before finishing and adding in the bourbons so we can still slot it in as a "rye".

This is a simply stunning expression that brings big cherry notes and rye spice, leathers and caramels from the bourbons, a nice underlying smokiness and honey from the finish. There's rich chocolately notes here and a complex green tea flavor that permeates throughout the drinking experience.

If you're looking for a wh***ey that perfectly represents the brand that makes it, then look no further. Bardstown is all about collaboration, innovation, and transparency. With this expression you get exactly that; collaboration with Amrut, innovation as the first American whiskies finished in Indian malt wh***ey barrels, and transparency with the blending components, age statements, and mash bills of all the whiskies involved printed right on the side of the bottle.
