Stock Market Today: Tech Stocks Buoyant Ahead of Fed Rate Decision
Chip maker SK Hynix's profit triples; Fed expected to hold rates steady

The tech rally is rolling into a third day ahead of the Fed’s interest-rate decision.

Nasdaq-100 futures are gaining this morning, and Asian markets surged after chip maker SK Hynix reported blowout earnings, with quarterly profit tripling. South Korea’s AI-heavy Kospi index jumped 6%.

Results from Google owner Alphabet and Microsoft after markets close could provide further fuel. The Nasdaq has gained almost 2% since Anthropic filed its IPO paperwork Monday.

The Federal Reserve is broadly expected to leave rates unchanged, despite inflationary pressures continuing to mount. Benchmark Treasury yields have risen above 5% again ahead of the decision, due at 2 p.m. Investors will scrutinize Chairman Kevin Warsh's press conference for clues on his next moves.

Oil prices also rose overnight after my colleagues reported the Trump administration has told several Gulf countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign against Iran after the U.S. midterms.

People focus on proximity to first place and give too little weight to the number of options ranked. Managers can improve comparisons by reporting percentiles and highlighting how many alternatives an option outperformed. People and companies can also use this tendency to present their achievements more favorably. As organizations automate decisions, understanding this bias becomes essential to keeping seemingly objective rankings from systematically skewing hiring, rewards, and other important choices across the business.
