We were out wandering the other day and stumbled on something pretty wonderful. At the corner of Brutus and North Conway, Journey North USA is a delightful surprise—equal parts art studio, lavender field, and roadside gem.

Mary and Guy Wadsworth have created a spot where you can snip your own lavender bouquet, browse Mary’s one-of-a-kind artwork and home goods, and pick up Guy’s handcrafted lotions and potions (yes, really).

They’re open Thursday–Saturday from 11–4, and Sunday from 12–4. If you’re roaming anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and stop by while the lavender is in full bloom.

On this week’s Cars of Cross Village, we pay homage to one of the coolest “non-motorized” things that has rolled through the village this year. This 1965 Airstream Caravel made the long trek from Colorado to Northern Michigan by way of all points south, east, and west! This compact little camper tows like a dream, fits anywhere, and is always the talk of the campground wherever she lands. Make sure to get out on the road and see this great state and country this summer. And, in the immortal words of J.R.R. Tolkien: “Not all who wander are lost.”

On this day in 1932, Diego Rivera began work on his Detroit Industry murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Eleven months and 27 panels later, he unveiled one of North America’s greatest murals.

Ninety-three years later, we stand in front of his masterpiece with something a little smaller. Our holiday card pays tribute to the iconic North Wall—reimagined with a North Pole twist.
