Support Operation Second Chance and Help Build a Veteran Bunk House

Operation Second Chance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting severely disabled veterans through therapeutic hunting retreats based in Charles City, IA. These retreats offer healing, connection, and purpose to veterans who need it most.

To better serve participants, the Charles City chapter is raising funds to build a fully ADA-accessible “bunk house” that will provide lodging for four additional veterans during retreat weekends. This space will ensure a safe, comfortable, and accessible environment for those attending.

The land for the build has been generously donated, and many local volunteers have committed their time and skills to the project. Now, they’re working to raise $20,000 to cover the cost of building materials, permits, and furnishings.

The goal is to have the bunk house ready by the November 2025 retreat, with plans for it to serve hundreds of veterans in the years to come.

You can help make this vision a reality. A portion of the funds will be raised through a community raffle—and raffle tickets are available now at The Ox & Wren Spirits and Gifts. You do not need to be present to win.

We would love to have you join us THIS Thursday, July 17 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm for our Hawiian themed Patio Party to celebrate and remember a beautiful loving soul.
We will be accepting for the meal good will donations in honor of Karen Hageman. These donations will be given to the HoCA Organization.
HoCA is the Howard Cancer Association. This group gives personal assistance to people who are living with cancer. Their association of volunteers are able to assist people with $600 grants to be used towards their expenses during their cancer journey.
HoCA's funds are either donations or memorials and being as they have very little overhead nearly every cent goes directly to cancer patients.
100% of funds received by HoCA are kept IN Howard County and neighboring Townships. 1,241 grants have been awarded since 1993.

Ox & Wren Spirits and Gifts

Located in Cresco, Iowa you will find the Ox & Wren Spirits and Gifts. Which is a local gift and liquor store born out of sibling rivalry. The ox in our logo represents Aaron Wemark the audacious younger brother who was inspired to transform the long-standing Cresco Liquor Store into a unique specialty shop for his older sister Maria Larson (the wren) to fill with all her treasures. It’s one of those things where you kinda have to know them to get it.

We feature a weekly beer tasting show on our page called, “Beers from the Wrens Nest.” On the show a local father-son pair who work at the Ox & Wren share their thoughts about their favorite alcoholic beverage- beer. We are proud that the show has turned into a local hit with a strong following!

There is so much to do at the Ox & Wren. Those who stop by can shop a wide variety of home decor and seasonal gifts, in addition, a huge selection of alcohol and beer.

If your looking for a place to hangout and relax we also offer a in-door and out-door seating where you can drink beverages or have a cup of coffee.
