We have normalized alcohol so deeply that choosing NOT to drink often requires more explanation than drinking ever did.

We question sobriety more than we question the culture that makes alcohol a requirement for having fun, celebrating, coping, or simply fitting in.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Two young people right here in our own community, near LSU, were engaged and looking forward to a lifetime together, only to have their future tragically cut short.

And at the hands of someone who wasn’t even legally old enough to drink.

THIS. This is WHY we do what we do. Why we continue to speak up, challenge drinking culture, and fight to change the narrative surrounding alcohol.

Because these aren’t just headlines. These are lives. Families. Futures that will never happen.

This s**t has to stop.

Praying that God wraps His arms around these families in the days, weeks, and months ahead. That He gives them strength when there are no words, peace in the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, and comfort that only He can provide.

May their lives be remembered for the love they shared, the futures they dreamed of, and the impact they left on everyone who knew them. 🤍

We’ve become so accustomed to altering how we feel that we’ve forgotten it’s okay to simply feel.

Stress? Have a drink.
Bad day? Have a drink.
Celebrating? Have a drink.
Feeling anxious? Take the edge off.

At what point did escaping reality become more normal than actually experiencing it?

Life isn’t supposed to feel good every second of every day. We’re supposed to experience the highs, the lows, the uncomfortable moments, and everything in between.

Maybe instead of constantly searching for ways to numb ourselves, we should start asking why we’ve become so uncomfortable with simply being present.

Just because something is normalized doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be questioned.

We spend so much time teaching our kids to stand up to peer pressure, to make their own choices, and to be confident enough to say no.

But somewhere along the way, we forget that peer pressure doesn’t end when we become adults.

It’s the drink you accept because everyone else is having one. The questions you get when you turn one down. The feeling that you have to explain yourself simply because you choose not to drink.

We’ve normalized alcohol being part of almost every social experience, to the point where saying no can sometimes feel harder than saying yes.

And this isn’t about judging anyone who drinks. It’s about recognizing how much influence our culture has on the choices we make.

If we’re teaching the next generation that they don’t have to follow the crowd, shouldn’t we be willing to lead by example?

Something to think about.

From our little bottle shop in downtown Covington to launching our very own non-alcoholic brut, DryOak has grown into something bigger than we ever imagined.

And we’re just getting started.

More products. More community. More conversations that matter.

It’s time to go BEYOND THE BOTTLE — a new series where we’re getting into the conversations surrounding alcohol, sobriety, drinking culture, motherhood, and everything we’re working to build through DryOak.

Some conversations might challenge the norm, some might get a little personal, but all of them matter.

Because at the end of the day, this has never been just about what’s in the bottle. 🥂
