May 27, 2025: it’s Tuesday! You know the deal: if you are in the food, wine, or hospitality business, take advantage of our ITBT offer. Select up to 3 bottles of wine or spirits and get them at a 25% mark up from cost. If you’re not near the shop, you can call in your order and we’ll send you an invoice. It has to be paid today, but you can pick it up any time.
And of course, we’ll have something open for you to taste. Today, it’s something truly spore-ctacular:
Please don’t ask how long we spent looking up mushroom puns… it was an cremini-ally unreasonable amount of time. But we’ve given up and are just going to post our tasting notes. Come by for a sip and we promise you’ll be surprised at how versatile and tasty this stuff is!
‘s note: Hm. Mushroom Liqueur.. There was a time when I would stick my nose up to this but it was open at the shop so I tasted it! What the hay, why not? I actually liked it!! The palate is maple-y sweet and savory. It’s got a bitter, kind of spicy kick that I think would be great in some kind of cocktail, not too sure what yet. But if you figure it out, let me know!!
frank.wine ‘s Note: I was easily into my 4th decade before I realized I like mushrooms.... I just don’t like mushrooms from a can. I’m now in my 5th decade with all the wisdom that goes with it, so I had a good hunch that I would like this - which may very well be the first ever mushroom liqueur. And if you think about it, it makes loads of sense. Umami texture, earthy flavor, a lovely bitterness from the various botanicas to balance out the sweetness (which is from honey and maple syrup, so it’s a very lovely sweetness.) Think of it as an amaro and it makes perfect sense - and you’ll start to get a sense of its versatility.
