REMINDER: Maryland’s Summer Closure of Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass Fishing Begins August 1

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds Maryland recreational anglers that targeting striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries is prohibited from August 1 through August 31.

The striped bass targeting closure, shifted to August for the 2026 season, was put in place to protect the younger, resident striped bass population when hot water and air temperatures in mid-summer make fish more vulnerable to dying after being caught and released. Striped Bass Season Reminder: Under the new Chesapeake Bay recreational striped bass season structure, striped bass fishing and harvest are permitted through the end of July (1 fish per person per day, at least 19" and cannot exceed 24").

The 2026 summer closure will take place during the entire month of August.

Striped bass season opens tomorrow June 1st !Who’s playing hooky from work ? We’re not we will be here to help with all your tackle and live bait needs . Keep in mind regulations state one fish per person in a slot ranging from 19-24 inches . Our store will be opening at 5am . Hope to see y’all soon !
