🔥 Fireside Friday: If Cigar Smokers Wrote the Warning Labels... 😂

We've all seen the warning labels on cigar boxes. They're serious, they're required, and they're certainly not written with a sense of humor.

But what if cigar smokers were allowed to write their own warning labels?

Forget the usual government warnings. We're talking about the things cigar enthusiasts know all too well!

For example:

⚠️ “Warning: May cause you to lose track of time and miss dinner.”

⚠️ “Warning: Purchasing one may result in buying an entire box.”

⚠️ “Warning: May lead to unsolicited opinions about wrapper to***co.”

⚠️ “Warning: Telling your spouse how much you SAVED may not have the desired effect.” 😂

And let's face it, some of these warnings might be more useful than the ones currently printed on the boxes!

📝 Chet's Note: “Warning: Side effects may include an uncontrollable urge to open a cigar lounge.” 😂

🎼👻 SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY: CINCINNATI MUSIC HALL! 👻🎼

With Halloween just two days away, we thought we'd explore one of Cincinnati's most magnificent buildings.

A place filled with extraordinary architecture, world-class music, fascinating history...

And perhaps a few things that go bump in the night! 👻

Welcome to Cincinnati Music Hall!

🏛️ A CINCINNATI MASTERPIECE

Opened on May 14, 1878, Music Hall was designed by renowned Cincinnati architect Samuel Hannaford in the High Victorian Gothic style.

And if that name sounds familiar, it should!

Over the past two weeks, we've encountered Hannaford's work at both the Cincinnati Observatory and Spring Grove Cemetery's Norman Chapel.

Apparently, the man got around! 😁

Music Hall was made possible largely through the generosity of Cincinnati businessman Reuben Springer, who helped finance a permanent home for the city's growing musical festivals.

The building's spectacular brick exterior, soaring towers, and ornate architectural details quickly made it one of Cincinnati's most recognizable landmarks.

🎻 MORE THAN JUST MUSIC

Although Music Hall is best known as the home of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Ballet, and May Festival, its history goes far beyond classical music.

Over the years, it has hosted:

🎤 Legendary entertainers including Frank Sinatra, Prince, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen.

🥊 Boxing matches and wrestling events.

🏀 Basketball games and other sporting competitions.

🚗 Automobile and industrial exhibitions.

🎪 Circuses, political conventions, and countless community celebrations.

For nearly 150 years, Music Hall has been one of Cincinnati's great gathering places.

👻 BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GHOSTS?

Here's where things get particularly interesting!

Long before Music Hall was constructed, portions of the property and surrounding area were used as burial grounds, including a cemetery associated with the former Cincinnati Orphan Asylum.

During various construction and renovation projects, human remains have reportedly been discovered beneath or near the building.

Over the decades, musicians, employees, and visitors have shared stories of mysterious footsteps, unexplained sounds, shadowy figures, and other unusual experiences.

Some have even claimed to hear music when nobody was performing!

These stories have helped Music Hall earn a reputation as one of America's most haunted concert venues.

Of course, whether these experiences have supernatural explanations is another question entirely.

But with Halloween approaching, they certainly add an interesting dimension to an already remarkable building!

🎼 A HISTORIC LANDMARK REBORN

Music Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975.

By the early 21st century, however, the building was showing its age and needed significant restoration.

In 2016, it closed for a massive $143 million renovation.

When it reopened in October 2017, Cincinnati welcomed back a beautifully restored landmark, complete with modern improvements while preserving its extraordinary historic character.

Today, Music Hall remains one of the crown jewels of Cincinnati's arts and cultural community.

🎓 CHET'S NOTE

Music Hall also holds a special place in my own history.

It's where my high school graduation ceremony took place, sometime back in the late 1900s.

Yes, you read that correctly.

The late 1900s.

Sounds like ancient history, doesn't it? 😂

Of course, it was actually 1988, but saying "the late 1900s" makes me sound like I belong in one of Music Hall's historical exhibits!

And considering Music Hall's reputation for being haunted, I'm just glad nobody from my graduating class has been reported wandering the halls ever since!

🌟 Tasting Note Tuesday: Plasencia Alma del Cielo 🌟

What happens when a family with generations of to***co-growing experience takes cigar cultivation to new heights?

You get the Plasencia Alma del Cielo!

Introduced in 2025, Alma del Cielo translates to "Soul of the Sky," and its name couldn't be more appropriate. This remarkable cigar highlights to***co grown at approximately 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) above sea level at Finca San Julián, a Plasencia family estate in the mountains of Condega, Nicaragua.

But there's much more to this cigar than its elevation. There's also a wonderful family story behind it!

🌿 A Family Legacy Reclaimed

Long before to***co was grown on this land, Finca San Julián held a special place in the heart of Melalina Torres, wife of Don Nestor Plasencia.

As a child, Melalina spent time exploring the family's property, surrounded by coffee trees and beautiful mountain scenery. The property was eventually sold, but years later, Don Nestor reacquired the land and surprised his wife with it as an anniversary gift.

Today, that same property produces some of the high-elevation to***co used in Alma del Cielo, making this cigar as much a celebration of family and heritage as it is of to***co cultivation.

At Finca San Julián, the to***co grows in an environment with abundant sunshine, cooler mountain temperatures, and distinctive growing conditions.

Elevation can influence how to***co develops, including its growth rate, leaf structure, and chemical composition. The result is another example of how geography and farming practices contribute to the flavors we experience in a cigar.

🔥 Flavor Journey

First Third:

The cigar opens with a creamy sweetness reminiscent of honey and marzipan, accompanied by delicate notes of nougat. Rather than immediately overwhelming the palate with pepper, Alma del Cielo introduces itself with a smooth, refined character.

Middle Third:

As the cigar develops, earthy undertones emerge alongside warm cedar and a subtle brightness reminiscent of orange zest. The interplay between sweetness and wood creates an interesting balance, with the nougat characteristics continuing through the experience.

Final Third:

The flavors become a little warmer and more pronounced, with cedar, earth, and lingering sweetness complemented by a gentle ginger-like spice. The finish remains balanced, offering complexity without relying entirely on strength.
