A Real Estate service that rescues at risk buildings in Over the Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio and after stablization and renovation, transfers them, with financing to qualified urban pioneers to finish off and live or work in and who then will refinance the spaces to take Great Grandpa out of the loop so that he can do it all again. GREAT Grandpa wants Over the Rhine to be reborn and vibrant, like it was three generations ago.

Well I have neglected my duties recently. A lot has happened since I started this post ten years ago. At that time Over the Rhine was not an assured thing. At that time I had not traced my relatives to their first landing in the USA 170 years ago in OTR at the corner of E. Clifton and Frintz St. because both streets were called a different name when they moved there. At that time I was recalling my Great Grandpa and his life 100 years ago, trying to imagine an urban life lived today. It should have been My Great Great Grandpa but the walkable lively life they lived in is happening now.
Imagine 5,000 rose plants now growing on Stark St. Many active restaurants serving and admired by region wide patrons, Imagine that OTR was an entertainment hub again. Imagine even Vine St lined with open vibrant vendors bars and beer gardens as busy as they were a hundred years ago. It all has happened in just ten years from when I dreamed that it could. This journey also chronicled the path of what went on in that ten years both serious and funny the success and the tragedies, the brick by brick building of the dream. Going back in the posts gives a step by step of the life of a Great Great grandson's dream and the dream of many to bring back a most wonderful neighborhood to its vibrant life again.

Been racing around for so long that a good rainy day feels like a relief to sit and collect my thoughts. I am sure that a hundred years ago folks were also running around like crazy but it seems that we now are more fractured no than ever. No time to read a book. No time to go for a walk. No time to even smoke a pipe or cigar in a park bench. The news cycle is now so fast that it is old news by the time the paper is printed. No time for critical thinking or to sort what is real and what i.e. fake. I guess we are just waiting to give our minds to AI. After all the machines will be able to think better than we can and not get headaches.

Things are surely changing in the old neighborhood. It used to be horses everywhere double parked on Elm St unloading grain and loading barrels. For a while nobody parked on the streets and only a few street walkers inhabited the sidewalk. Now you can try your darndest to find a place to park just to get a burger at the Dunlap saloon! What is this world coming to?

12/06/2016

Friday we lost another one. Elm and Liberty seems to be the new Corryville scene, full of huge scale developments. The Planning Commission denied 28 speakers and approved a plan with no commercial parking as well as 84 units with "ug Petooey " style also have less than one parking space per unit. Oh yes on a less than 2 acre PUD !

With all the "New" Construction going on in "Over the Rhine" using "Modern" Designs, Great Grandpa will visit the place in 50 years and conclude that Over the Rhine is composed of 2016 buildings with scattered buildings built in the late 18th Century. Why cannot we build designs that can bring this process some balance?
