Matthieu Dumarcher is pretty much a one-man show. He started his small winery in the village of La Baume de Transit, because as a young winemaker it was a place where he could afford to purchase old vineyards. His grandmother happened to be from the area, and so it seemed meant to be. He purchased four hectares of vineyards from retiring farmers, who owned fantastic parcels of old-vine Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah. Today, he produces his wines from a total of five hectares.
On a snowy day like today in Chicago, we are dreaming of the Drôme Provençale. What would be better on a day like today than a dinner that includes La Daube Provençale and a bottle of Les Vaillants, produced from 70+ year old Grenache and Carignan vines.
