Got Bees? Got Chickens? Treat them to some Drone Larva. They will clean it up and the bees will clean out the empty comb and refill it with honey.

This is the third storm that I've caught outside of a house that has bees living up under the eaves. Maybe they aren't from the house... I caught one swarm about 3 weeks ago that chose not to go into the box and landed in a tree. Like a couple days later, a secondary swarm with a virgin Queen and a few bees. And yesterday I checked and these bees have been here for a while based on the comb and nectar they've been bringing in. This was just a starter strip in an empty frame.

Marking queens… not exactly my strong suit 😅🐝

Between bulky gloves and that split-second fear of “don’t squish her!”… I’ve definitely avoided it more than I should.

But a buddy of mine hooked me up with one of these queen marking forks—and it’s a game changer. Way easier to handle than the tiny ones out there, especially if you’ve got big hands or you’re gloved up.

The design is simple:
A soft rubber band stretched between the tines gently holds her in place—no pressure needed—just enough to safely dot her.

🎯 Why mark your queen?
• Makes her WAY easier to spot during inspections
• Helps track her age and performance
• Keeps your hive management dialed in

I’m marking this queen blue (2025) 🔵
This year’s color is white (2026) ⚪️

Heads up—paint can wear off over time, so don’t be surprised if she needs a touch-up down the road.

Still not perfect at it… but getting more comfortable every time.

Another Seattle Swarm. Glad it's not one of my hives! I'll.let.tehm climb in the bucket and come back later.

Exciting news for beekeepers!

I wanted to share this here — I was a beta tester for the new Tech Bee Smoker by Technically Beekeeping, an innovative electric smoker that uses plant-derived essential oils and alcohol to create smoke.

Over five years in development and a full year of testing, more than 116 different scent formulations were tried to find the perfect blend for calming bees — and it truly works. It’s been tested by hobbyists and commercial beekeepers across the country who absolutely love it.
If you’d like to be among the first to get your hands on one, the Kickstarter launches tomorrow at 10 AM! 🔥🐝
