Liquors features fine wines, spirits, imported and domestic beers, ales, seasonal brews and more. We are located just outside Navy Yard Gate 4 in Charlestown, Massachusetts. There is a nominal delivery charge . Over the years many changes have occurred in the wine and beverage retail industry, yet today McCarthy Bros. Shoeless Joe Jackson at his liquor store. . He ran “Joe Jackson’s Liquor Store” at 1262 Pendleton Street, West Greenville, South Carolina from 1933 until his death in 1951. The story goes there was a 1947 visit from Ty Cobb and sportswriter Grantland Rice. Cobb, passing through after The Masters, strolled in with Rice to buy a quart of bourbon. Joe, busy or cagey, didn’t flinch—didn’t even acknowledge the baseball titan at first. Finally, Cobb broke the ice: “Don’t you know me, Joe?” Joe’s reply cut deep: “Sure, I know you, Ty, but I wasn’t sure you wanted to know me. A lot of them don’t.”
