Good morning.....
Festivities abound this Saturday!! It's The Battle of Byron....games, food, fun downtown Byron. Friend, Austin and the BOB committee have been corralling all the "moving pieces" (no easy task with food trucks, vendors, game venues, et al). It's a great day...come out and join the fun!
The Deli will be closed on Saturday, so that Vicki and I can enjoy the BOB festivities, too.
It's also Derby Day....the 151st (that's one hundred fifty one!) Run for the Roses. Three year old thoroughbreds race 1 1/4 miles....the "most exciting two minutes in sports." Sight to behold..."Speed, heart and a bit of magic."
A good number of years back...lots!...good friends and I had Derby Parties...outrageous hats, bouquets of roses, Derby food, Mint Juleps, (one friend always said it was a waste of good Bourbon!) and wagers. Winner got a goodie basket, the money went to charity and we had a grand time!
Soups: Black Bean Chili ~ Kentucky Burgoo (three meats...no squirrel or possum....lots of veggies)
Quiches: Cheeseburger Pie ~ Kentucky Hot Brown
Sweets: Brownies w/Pecans ~ Run for the Roses Pie (Kern's Bakery has a trademark on the name Derby Pie AND they use walnuts instead of pecans.)
Come see us.
