Owners Tom Hyland and Rick Lopez met several years back at Morrell & Co. Last summer, over some great wines and food, Tom said "Hey Rick, do you want to open a wine shop together". Rick responded, "absolutely!" One year, a few great lawyers and a liquor license later they opened Gowanus Wine Merchants!

Dave is our ! We know Dave as a welcome ball of energy with a tail that whirls like a propellor, an eager pup who pops up on his hind legs to join in with a sake tasting. But Ella () tells us that he is sedate, sleepy little fella at home. She also told us that his swag is so strong, that during his time as an office dog, everyone referred to his bipedal colleague with the same name as Human Dave. All we know if he makes our day every time we see him. We ❤️ you, Dave!

MEET THE WINEMAKER TASTING! Friday, April 17, taste the classic California wines of Vinum Cellars with winemaker Richard Bruno. Vinum Cellars is an environmentally conscious winery founded in 1997 by Bruno and pal Chris Condos, which they financed with their credit cards. Taste approachable single-vineyard Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Petit Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, including a Napa Cab aged in Chateau Margaux barrels. Friday, April 17, 5:30-8pm. Bottles poured are 10% off, tastings are free.

Dumpling (a k a Dumps, a k a Dumpling) is a vivacious blonde Frenchy whose excitement over being in the shop can lead to a small piddle, but no matter to us, as we love seeing her. MEET THE WINEMAKER WEDNESDAY! Matthew Rorick has repaired submarine telescopes for the U.S. Navy, made electric guitars, and skateboarded professionally. For the last 20 years he’s made uncompromising wines under the banner of Forlorn Hope in Calaveras County, California. Taste four of his wines, from a stunning single-vineyard Chenin Blanc to the Queen of the Sierra blends inspired pre-prohibition California viticulture. Forlorn Hope is named the 16th - 19th century small bands of volunteer soldiers assigned to attack enemy lines, because “We love the long shots. We love the outsiders, the lost causes, the people/projects/ideas abandoned as not having a chance in the world.” Wednesday, April 8th, 5-7:30pm.
