BOTTLE STORIES

🇭🇺 Barnag 2023 Cabernet (Hungary)

Bencze Szilagyi took over his father’s small vineyard in 2017 and started making wine, building the project into something more personal over time.

He’s based in the tiny village of Barnag, in the volcanic hills of the northern Balaton region, working out of a 200-year-old converted barn. Lake Balaton — the largest lake in Central Europe — helps moderate the climate, while the surrounding hills protect the vineyards from cold winds.

He works with a few small parcels (around 5 hectares total), farming most of it himself and sourcing some fruit locally. As the region becomes more popular and land prices rise, projects like this are becoming harder to sustain — especially without long-standing family ownership.

Beyond wine, he’s also involved in art, architecture, and philosophy, and that influence comes through in the identity of the project — including the labels, which draw from Dutch Renaissance woodcut prints, often referencing the seven deadly sins.

🍷 The Cabernet leans lighter and fresher than expected — red fruit, a bit of spice, soft structure. Easy to drink, but still balanced. You can even enjoy it slightly chilled — perfect for that in-between spring weather.

Only 2 cases — no reorders.

My name is Nick Pelis and I am the new owner of Grain & Vine.

I bring years of expertise from the spirit world and have been busy stocking the shop with amazing liquid from producers that are focused on transparency, integrity, and craftsmanship.

My team and I are excited to be part of such a vibrant and creative community in Williamsburg and we can’t wait to engage with you during our in-store tastings and upcoming cocktail and spirit education nights (stay tuned for info)!

We are constantly curating fun ways to discover your new favorite bottles, cocktail books, and accessories! I believe in celebrating all ways of imbibing – whether that be spirited or not. You can also catch me at our sister shop .co, a non-alc shop in Manhattan!

Whether you only meet me here online or at our party tomorrow night from 6:30-8:30, I’d love to introduce myself and my wife Ann Marie to the community and celebrate the new chapter of
Grain & Vine.

I hope to see you soon! 🥂

Thanksgiving wines🍂

Thanksgiving table got options this year and honestly, it’s hard to pick a favorite.

Slide through a lineup that moves from bright and breezy to deep and soul-warming, with bottles that actually feel like fall.

Gessamí 2024 kicks things off with floral lift, citrus sparkle, and that silky freshness that makes roasted turkey feel lighter and somehow more alive.

French whites bring pure grace.
Think Mâconnais Chardonnay and Sancerre energy — orchard fruit, minerality, clean edges, and vibes that make every bite feel considered but effortless.

Burgundy shows its two moods.
Santenay stays bright and herb-kissed, while Pommard leans darker and more serious, with structure that plays beautifully with rich sides and slow evenings.

A quiet flex from Côte Chalonnaise follows.
Nathalie Richez “Petites Combes” feels honest and vibrant, with red cherry, soft spice, and that silky glide you notice after the second sip.

Beaujolais brings contrast and charm.
Juicy Morgon sings with freshness, while aged Côte de Brouilly whispers depth, earth, and grace for anyone craving nuance.

Then the Rhône turns up the volume.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape delivers power and warmth, Gigondas answers with peppery soul and grounded intensity.

No pressure. Just really good bottles and people you actually enjoy.

Save a table seat. Pour generously. Let the aromas wander.
