Not only did Brett personally select all the wines in this week’s complimentary tasting (and petting zoo, Wednesday, 8/20, 5-7pm), he also came up with the perfect name for the event: “Barnyard Blanc.”

The term “barnyard” is commonly used in wine parlance to describe certain aromas in old world wines. Today, we might just call it “funk.”

The descriptor “leans into the rustic, funky vibe of both wine and animals,” says Brett. “In true farm fashion, all of the wines are either biodynamic or organic.”

He adds that Loire lovers should be sure not to miss “an older, rare white Chinon from [legendary producer] Olga Raffault.”

Each of the wines reflects a different expression of Chenin Blanc to taste side-by-side.

The tasting will be paired with guests, wild and domesticated, from Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary. For those of you who attended the last one of these events, you know how unique, fun, and memorable it was. We hope to see you then. The wines follow below!

About Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary:

Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was founded in April 2020: “We are a farm animal sanctuary and strive to provide the best care possible for our animal residents. At Tails of Two Cities Sanctuary humans visiting learn about different places, cultures, and healing.”

Brett and the team at the Boulder Wine Merchant apologize for the recent technical issues our festival guests have been experiencing on BoulderBurgundyFestival.com. Please visit the site to reserve your spot. Link in bio.

It’s not every day that you get your very own “Taylor Swift Moment”: we would like to think that we were so overwhelmed by ticket requests that our website crashed!

Joking aside, we are sorry for any convenience and thank you for your patience.

But there’s good news: the site is now fully operational and working correctly.

There is plenty of availability for all the events.

Just like Taylor, there’s no one who cares more about our customers than we do. As she put it at the time of the ticket meltdown, “Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means.”

Taste the Spirit of the West
with Distillery 291
founder Michael Myers
Friday, August 8, 5-7pm
complimentary

Join us for an evening with Michael Myers, the visionary behind Distillery 291 — a grain-to-glass distillery crafting unapologetically bold whiskey in the shadow of Pikes Peak.

Built from scratch in Colorado Springs, Distillery 291 is known for its untamed flavor, rugged spirit, and relentless pursuit of character. One of its most defining features? A one-of-a-kind finishing technique using hand-charred Colorado aspen staves — a nod to place, tradition, and bold innovation. This is whiskey that doesn’t whisper. It’s rugged, refined, and rebellious—just like Colorado.

Michael will be pouring and speaking on four of his signature expressions:

Small Batch Bourbon – big oak, vanilla, and smoke; no apologies

Small Batch Rye – punchy, peppery, and persistently smooth

The Decc – a rebellious whiskey liqueur with clove and orange

Bad Guy – a wheated bourbon that’s as bold as its name

Whether you’re a longtime whiskey drinker or whiskey-curious, this is a rare chance to meet the maker, hear the stories, and taste the spirit that’s redefining Rocky Mountain whiskey.

Taste “Cool Climate Wines,” Weds., 8/6, 5-7pm, complimentary.

In summer’s heat, we find ourselves gravitating to the distinctive character of cool climate wines. These sophisticated sippers that embody the graceful restraint of cooler growing regions.

Cool climate wines hail from regions where grapes ripen slowly under moderate temperatures. These conditions create something magical in the vineyard: when grapes develop gradually over a longer season, they retain higher natural acidity while developing complex aroma and flavor compounds. This results in wines with remarkable balance, bright acidity, and an almost electric energy that makes them refreshing and incredibly food-friendly. The backbone of any great cool climate wine is its natural tartness that keeps the wine lively and prevents it from feeling heavy or cloying on your palate. Rather than bold, fruit-forward power, these wines offer finesse and precision. Cooler temperatures preserve delicate floral and herbal notes that might be lost in warmer climates, creating wines with intriguing layers of scent and flavor. Gentle ripening typically means lower sugar levels, resulting in wines with moderate alcohol that won’t overwhelm your palate or your afternoon.

While it might seem counterintuitive, cool climate wines are summer’s secret weapon.

Join us to get to know four new arrivals that bottles that capture the essence of elevation, gentle breezes, and extended growing seasons.
