I took a break from paint parties this Summer to work on one of my other loves…murals. This one is in my school, BPS, and is a combination of 5 murals with different scenes and themes. I was given a lot of creative freedom and it’s the largest I’ve ever designed and painted. It took about 20 days (not all were full days).
Parts of it went all the way to the ceiling and I was able to use a scissor lift in order to avoid scary ladders. It also helped because the bookshelves underneath weren’t able to be moved so I had to work around them (or above) and needed to get close to the wall. Painting on cinder blocks is not for the faint of heart and painting straight lines on bumps is just awesome (insert sarcastic tone here). However, I’ve been painting on school walls my entire career and I’m thankful for the previous experience. I would not have been ready to paint this even 5 years ago.
I thoroughly enjoyed adding some of my favorite characters (especially ones I read to my own children), and made myself giggle when imagining the interaction I was depicting them having. I will admit this will probably grow. AJ has upset with me that I didnt add Bad Kitty or Diary of a Whimpy kid.
I have so many favorites that it’s hard to name them. I’m gonna list all the characters incase you don’t know what they are and I’ll try to have them in order starting with the treehouse all the way on the right side in the corner.
Thank you so much to Ms. Way (our librarian) for imagining this and for trusting me. It really helped bring out some personality.
Now for a much needed vacation and then attention to some neglected house chores 🙂 School is right around the corner.
