You can purchase a temporary license for the time you are visiting Birch Bay, or you can purchase your license annually for year-round use. Upcoming changes to Fishing License purchases starting in July 2026. State is moving away from paper license format to smart phone application based format. Please read through the notice from Fish and Wildlife to prepare for upcomin Fishing and Crabbing Season.

OLYMPIA – Beginning July 8, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will no longer provide hunting and fishing licenses or other license products on waterproof, tear-resistant license paper and is encouraging the use of mobile licensing.

Burn ban still in effect 8/15/2025: We are currently in a Stage 2 Burn Ban; no outdoor burning of any kind, including campfires. Propane fire pits without solid wood burning material are allowed, along with propane/charcoal BBQs and charcoal/pellet smokers.

Crab Season is still Closed for Birch Bay/Blaine area. Season is currently open for Bellingham and San Juan Islands.

Based on past opening dates, time frame will be middle of August. Please visit the State Website for latest update and news.
